Also that show was absolutely fantastic. Amenra absolutely blew my mind, and they are some of the nicest dudes i think ive ever met. They met and talked to everyone in their merch line after their set for a non negligable amount of time. Really approachable dudes and they played an amazong set.
Voivod really isnt my cup of tea, but they are really great players and brought put alot of energy for any band, but especially people their age lol.
Yob absolutely decimated that place. In absoluye perfect form. They brought out the bassist of amenra to do what waz basocally primal screaming during atma and it took an already heavy song to another level. Super happy i got to see this show with this lineup. I hope Amenra gets to come back because they put on a seriously intense show.

Some pictures from our first day. Stuffs been rearranged further since but the basic idea im trying to do is use. Set of small condensor mics in ortf formation to mimic human ears. Then the idea is to use the space we have and physically move stuff around the room to create a sense of space. So we are going to have the bass guitar right up the center then the two amps far left and right in the room.

It was one of the best shows ive been to in awhile. The gas monkey bar and grill was a cool venue too. My brother and my drummers wife bought vinyls and had them all sign them. Good people hope they keep succeeding.
I cannot get enough of YOB. Caught them at the Bluebird in Denver last year with Bellwitch opening. I was so blown away that I did a smash-n-grab trip to Los Angeles in September to see them again before they closed out the U.S. tour. There's an energy to their live show that is indescribable. Pretty pumped for number three tonight.
FWIW - I've seen them solo every time and feel like that's the way to roll if possible. No conversations, no phone screens, no distractions. Just an hour of cathartic bone-crushing doom...
Seen them in November for the first time. Amazing. Seeing them again in July with Neurosis. That should be a bonecrusher.

Looks legit.....are you close mic-ing the speaker cabs or using DI? or both? I wonder how that big space will affect the sound.....if you need mixing help, look'a my sig Señor

Both di and close micing. We are going to use the overheads more as stereo room mics so that everything sounds like its in the same space. The idea is that youll have a stereo image like you are sitting in the drum throne.
For guitar i plan on doing the freidman technique close micd, then a clean DI through a radial jensen DI.
For bass im going to also do a clean DI and an EV re20 on the dually. I might do an md421 as well. I experimented having the re20 on the woofer then the md421 on the cone and was really liking the sound.
The big space adds alot of not really ugly reverb, but not really pretty either. Almost sounds like you are playing under a bridge. Its a weird aesthetic, but i kind of like it.
Stuff like that is really good to have on hand for science experiments or just using in cool ways in a mix. I love recording in acoustically weird places.

I prefer the first interpretation. I’m actually seeing a local school’s production of the Wizard of Oz next week. My wife teaches one of the kids in the pit orchestra. Should be fun for what it is.
Anyone get a look at Aaron’s pedalboard when they saw YOB? There was a crew waiting to chat with Mike after the show last night and they were right in front of his rig.
From afar I could see a cali76 CB, a Noble Pre/DI, something from BAT, and what looked like an IE pedal. Maybe the Nikbus reverb?
Great show last night in Denver. The sound is less than stellar at the Marquis compared to the last couple places I saw YOB. Still enjoyed it immensely and they’ve really varied the set list from their last time through - which leaned heavily on ORH last year for obvious reasons.

There are many TBers here who play in bands who are close to my genres so I'd find it useful to hear from you your experience in recording a demo and/or finding a indie label... Tell your "first record" stories, people!
Im using a set of stereo matched oktava mk012s. You could use rhode nt5s or neuman k184 or really any other small condensor mics, but the oktava mk012s sound really good and honest and the pair cost me less than 500 when i bought them. Youve got to watch out for chinese knock offs when purchasing, but for the price theyre really hard to beat in my opinion.
