Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Oh no! Can you please call it Leviathan?!? Please! How about Ahab? Or Elephant Man!!!!

Well I called my setup prior to getting this one "The Rick, the 'Wick and the Ampeg," so it's gotta flow...

"The Rick, the 'Wick, the Ampeg and Skye" just has a better flow than
"The Rick, the 'Wick, the Ampeg and Leviathan."
:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Was also considering "The Rick, the 'Wick, and Aunt Lisa";)

So ummm...... In my “less than adequate to make decisions,” state last night, I told my wife I wasn’t going to buy a bass this year. I’d normally say I was an idiot, but after being reminded of it this morning, I immediately said that leaves pickups, pedals, bass cabs, and heads. I already got the first huff and eye roll of the decade! Lmao

I’ve got to start slow. So about those pickups and pedals...... lol

I have a sudden urge to sell everything bass-related I own and get an AD200B, 2 Orange 4x10's, and a 4003W Rick. Fortunately I cannot afford to do that.

Id be all for the Orange, but the Ric would most likely be a jazz bass for me. Nothing wrong with a Ric at all. I just have a tough time ever going away from a jazz. Yeah I’m freakin weird like that lol.

I highly doubt my two 400rb head, GK 212 and Basson 210 would even buy cabs for the Orange though lol.

Exactly! A D-800 head and a pair of GK 210s MIGHT get me 1 used OBC410. Not that what I have is a bad rig by any means. It's just not quite at dream rig level yet lol.

That's a boss pic too:thumbsup:

Mine does look slightly oversprayed tho.View attachment 3650209

I'd chalk it up to character. Totally get it though, there always seems to be something about everything that makes one yearn for the grass on the other side. Glad to hear you're keeping it. I've wanted one for some time.

I occasionally have amp GAS, but then I get to crank my 700RB-II and Neo 410..

Same here.

@PokeyPrasch that's rough, way to look at the silver lining though. Playing is always a good thing, helps me get lost and my mind off of reality.

New tubes arrived today. Got them in and they acted funny for the first 10 minutes or so I was playing and then they seemed to settle in and sound so much better than the old ones. Sound is very full now and very punchy. Biased right up like they’re supposed to be. Psyched for band practice tomorrow and running it through my 810.

I’ve had both a V4B and now an SVT. They both sound pretty killer and I liked the v4B a lot but wanted more headroom. At the time I was okaying a thumb bass which is a pretty hifi tone and running a synth through the head. Now I’m not using the synth and play P basses.

My SVT will still grind and the volume isn’t unbearably loud but I haven’t ran the head with new tubes at practice yet. For my money tube heads whether they’re 100 watts or 300 watts sound awesome especially the ampeg variety. I like the headroom of the bigger amp for effects for sure. The bulk of my playing is at home by myself so I want something that sounds great and makes me want to play and write.
