Today I bought my third octaver.

Ooh I have some fondness for EBS just for being a Swedish manufacturer in a market dominated by USA and SEA. Had one of their amps at a rehearsal space a couple of years back and it was pretty nice. Felt like a comfy amp that was just easy to use. How do you like the pedal?

I played it in the shop (a very nice used gear shop around here) but found it difficult to do anything beyond checking that it worked. You know, unfamiliar amp, background music, people getting too close.
At home I've had no opportunity so far, as I have a fixed time slot for using the big amp, and I don't expect the little headphone amp to do the pedal justice.
So... maybe later today.

On the subject of octaves, I ordered a Meatbox last night! I've wanted one for a while and I figure better late than never, before the prices spiral out of control.
Please report back! I LOVE DOD and have always wanted a Meatbox, but have heard they don’t do traditional octave stuff well. I’d be interested in it feeding dirt and an envelope filter, as that’s what I do with my octave pedals.
the meatbox is great. I went between a few octaves and the mantic density hulk before deciding on the mantic. I don't really need or use traditional octave sounds anymore but the density hulk can fake a very passible one and I use it for low ambient rumblings. It helps to max the 2 eq points and ride the other 2 knobs at about 75%. It does great with dirt after and gets super synthy with a little modulation and an envelope filter.
This is exactly why I'm getting it. I love clean octaves, but I already have that. What I want is something filthy, massive, and meaty. The OC-2 wasn't quite up my alley, even if it's a splendid effect. Not clean enough to be clean, not dirty enough to be dirty y'know.
I got in 15 minutes of fooling around with the EBS OctaBass.
First impression: powerful! So much so, that I felt I might damage the speaker, the roof, or the relation with my neighbours. So I kind of restrained myself.
Basically, a beautiful low sound. It sounds like my bass, just lower. Tracking isn't too great below A, but I still need to experiment with settings to see if I can improve that. You know, turning knobs on the octaver, on the amp, on the bass, on the compressor...
On my board it'll be side by side with a cheap Behringer octaver, which seems to track the deepest notes better, but isn't so "natural" sounding. Well, they each have their place.
Now I need to rearrange the entire board, as Common Sense dictates that the HPF should go behind the octavers and the Muff.

Finally picked up an a Ibanez PD-7 today. It’s like a B3K and HM-2 had a baby. Gets the grit of the HM-2, with the tightness of the B3K, but with more low mid punch instead of high mid clank. Thing’s a beast. And yes - it IS Jo Bench in a box. This may dethrone my HM-2s for death metal tones...
Love the sound of the meatbox, and I need to get another one of the reissues. Was kinda dumb to flip it, but I did make some cash on it. It can get crazy with the lows, see below about my experience and that was with a mesa 2x12 cab. I feel like the sound is great, but it was tough to get the volume at or above unity without concern of my speakers. Granted this was with beefy pickups.
To be honest, I'm thinking about buying a mantic hulk. Seems like they were able to get more output and it has a dry out.
Yeah highly recommend the octaver before the hpf. I didn't blow my speakers with the meatbox, but I think I got close. They sure aren't the same since!

I had a Density Hulk for a year and liked it a lot but ended up switching for a Source Audio C4. Some part of me wants to get another meatbox clone
I think that the smaller Hulk has a drawback in that the 30hz and 60hz controls are on trimpots. I was constantly adjusting the knobs on my Density Hulk to match different amps and basses.
