Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

On the subject of gear, I got a new pedal - one of the knock off B7KUs.
DemonFX Pedals,Demon Effect pedal ,FANMUZK pedal p
While I didn't gel with the original I had a few years ago and it was the quickest flip I've ever had, I figured for the price of picking this up used, it's worth a shot. Especially since my tastes have been trending more trebly of late. Gotta say, I'm really digging its EQ. The distortion still sounds a bit anemic, but it makes my clean tone the best I've ever heard. And I just put my other dirt through it, and it really makes everything sound clearer somehow. I'm sure the overdrive portion itself can be used for some faster more aggressive stuff, but I think I really prefer my other dirt pushing it overall. It's made me re-evaluate my dirt again, as the only pedal that didn't sound amazing through it was my Pharaoh Supreme (which I love, but is currently not being used...). My other dirt sounds fantastic.
Anyway, what I have put through the pedal follows:
GK Rails Pedal
Modded Pork Loin
Swollen Pickle
Ibanez PD7
Dunwich DIY HM-2
Each of these pedals sounds a bit clearer through the clone - a little more cut (and some tightening of the bass maybe?). (I won't say the tones are "better", mostly because all of their tones are already great, and I could easily use either version of each tone.) And it makes my envelope filter respond just a touch more as well. All good things!
All of this makes me think - I would LOVE just the EQ section in pedal format. I wonder if anybody makes a "Darkglass EQ" pedal, or anything that would get me the same thing.
Anyway, haven't gotten any new gear in a bit, especially something that really made me think. And I actually had some time to play today for the first time in weeks! As a result, I've re-tooled my pedalboard to include the new addition, and have removed extraneous pedals for the most part. Trying to narrow it down and be productive with my limited time.

I just noticed an entertaining detail about my B7KU clone - on the face of the pedal, there is "ground lift" printed on the right hand side, just like the original B7KU. But there is no ground lift! They were so lazy in cloning it, they removed the option, but didn't actually change the printing on the pedal! Amazing.
May be looking for a potentially beefier version of the distortion circuit. Anybody here have experience with Darkglass? Would the A/O or X fit the bill? I love the clean tone and how it interacts with my dirt, but if there's a beefier dirt tone to be had on the DG stuff, and I can keep the same EQ as the B7KU, I'd be quite interested. For now, I'm absolutely LOVING the Ibanez PD7 pushing the B7KU clone. It's so versatile for my needs. Could be death metal, thrash, or any number of crossovers in that vein, and seeing as how that's the "original" genre I started with, I'm digging it.

You totally misunderstand. What it indicates is the correct place to grab hold of the pedal, if you ever need to lift it up from the ground (hence "ground lift").
This can be relevant when moving house. You may seriously harm your pedal if you grab it in an uneducated manner.
Thanks for the pro tip! So it's a good thing I haven't put any Velcro on it yet? It would completely ruin this important feature!

Ugh that is discouraging…I’m scheduled for my booster next week and really not looking forward to it…
The first two made me feel icky for a day or two so I assume the booster is just more of the same…
I decided to get the booster after Omicron showed up here (I’m in the same state you are so I figured why not based on the latest variant being identified here)…
And yeah, no guarantees that it will exempt me from getting actual COVID, but I think I’d kick myself more if I passed up the booster and somehow got COVID…

I’m still GASing for some Darkglass gear myself…
From demos I’ve heard online I personally think the Alpha Omicron sounds better than their other pedals…
The BK7 is a really close second, but I feel like the Alpha Omicron just sounds a little bit more pi$$ed off when the distortion is open all the way…
From what I’ve really about the A/O-The advantage of that pedal is that you can mix in clean tone w/ distortion so it might fit the bill if that’s what you’re after…
Kinda disappointed by what I’ve heard out of their vintage pedal especially compared to what I’ve heard from the Big Muff Pi…
Curious to see when I acquire that pedal if it will cure my Darkglass lust or if it increases it (I’m still awfully tempted to get one of their heads for my first amp head)…

In related news, I have my first gig in a the longest time I've gone as an adult w/out playing a show tomorrow night! It will also be my first gig where I sing
. The show is out of town (Fort Collins) and is sort of a warmup show for two Denver shows we have next month.
I don't usually get this geeky, but I'm running my 78 precision-> tuner pedal, Vintage Deluxe-> Microtubes X7-> Moog Delay w/ expression pedal-> Walrus Slo-> DG A/O-> Mesa Diesel 2x15. I am running a smaller board than I had in the past and I really dig it!
Funeral Mask is in a weird "hello/goodbye" mode where we released an album on a random day in October, and the dude who started the project is moving back to Philly. After the three shows we have booked the future gets murky.

Heh, I feel your pain. My singer decided he's going to move out of state, and we have a record we've just got done mastering (that I thought was much better than the first one). We'll work out some sort of release for it, and they've got plans for setting up what seems like would be a cool show at the midway point, but that band's going to be slow going for the foreseeable future.
Oh well, it was a very fun band, even if it wasn't necessarily always doing what I personally wanted to do, and I suppose they're all going to end sometime. I'll probably spend a few months writing and then try to get a new band together.
Heck, these days I've caught myself going off on tangents and writing some almost credible Martin Denny style exotica jazz. Maybe I'll get started with a band doing that.
