TC just got bought....

Behringer will absorb the unique technology and engineering of the brands they just bought into mediocre Behringer products, and then these companies will be cast off or closed. At the very least, the products' manufacturing will be gradually moved to Behringer City and made with the lowest cost parts, etc. They will also likely be "cost reduced" (read into that what you will).

Unfortunately, there is probably more of this on the horizon as the conglomerates get bigger and richer and many hi-tech companies are struggling and at some point - happy to take their earnings. TC may have sold for $180 Million or so - hard to resist if one is tired and struggling and has a board of directors hassling you.

Uli Behringer is truly responsible for squeezing much of the pro out of pro audio. I was with a company that successfully sued him many years ago for cloning one of our key products. Too bad we didn't put him out of business.

MIDAS, KLARK TEKNIK, TURBOSOUND, are all doing better. They definitely have more distribution and availability and have some killer products.
The Music Group isn't just about Uli, it's about all the people working at these brands. They're not going anywhere.

Behringer is known for budget equipment and with all budget mass produced gear there will be occasional failures however, with each acquisition they have been able to incorporate knowledge from the other companies into their own gear. The Midas designed pre-amps in their XR mixers is just one example. They now have one of the best pre-amp designs in the world in an affordable package. We'll have to wait to see if they have cut any corners in the building of them and how well they last but on specs they are looking very good.

I'm sure all will be well. What it looks like behringer has done now is to incorporate technology from the acquired brands into behringer products. That can't be a bad thing. And it seems like they let the other brand continue to exist the same way it did before, unlike some other acquisition companies...

Where did you come by that info? So far it looks like they're keeping the acquired brands intact.

That’s the vibe I get. Behringer made a heap of money by “borrowing” other’s technology and mass producing budget equivalents. The Music Group now have enough cash that they can just buy the technology outright instead of wasting time & money copying it on reverse engineering.

You talking Aphex - from some 25 years ago? Aphex, the established big brother company, sued a garage start-up for what would be $500,000 today. Behringer paid, Aphex was whole again I hope.

Uli got his own patent out of the deal and produced an exciter like devices.

I don't think there's any lawsuits going on any more.
TC has some exciter thing also.

Perhaps. But having just sat noodling on a TC combo amp at the San Marco GC this very evening while killing time after a gig, I can tell you that nothing particularly good will come of this - music-wise, that is. Some folks will make more money - yippee skippee... But Behringer just has the mark of *cheese* all over them. Bleh.

I don't get all this whining. This is the course of things in business. Big businesses buy the small ones. What happens to TC remains open. All I see is that Behringer (Music Group) is stepping up their game.

Buy what you like, like what you buy. I don't like or buy Products from either one. I prefer company's with honesty and integrity, and real people that stand behind and support their products. Not talking heads spouting hyperbole lies and the party line. The only B product I've ever bought was a "Tube" preamp with a little tube in a window with a light behind it not connected to anything! Haha I gave it away because it sounded terrible.

TC have in the past and still make great products, the have a strong brand name and I don't see this changing anything for them. Behringer and other companies in the group may benefit if they get access to some of TC's knowledge and products though. Just another business acquisition, no need to panic.

Music Group acquired TC Group, which is parent company of Tannoy, Lab Gruppen, Lake, TC Electronics, TC Helicon and TC Applied Technologies. Just saying that TC's bass amps were probably not that big a factor in the deal.

Actually Behringer has had a big turn around. Their new digital mixing boards are really nice and functional. So maybe this is their next step to bring up their amp lines.

I know Jauqo (probably see him tonight), and he's a great guy, INCREDIBLE MONSTER player, very cool and laid back, but I think it was the whole "Trace Elliot has closed up" stuff from late last year on here that broke the camels' back. That's speculation (I've never asked him, that's his business and I've got too much respect for him and his abilities to go there with him), but it seems to be the case.

Sorry to see him go from here as well.

I don't know man...a guy I know who rents and runs sound gear carries 3 of those X32 digital boards Behringer makes because they keep breaking down on him on a regular basis. He's had to change out the board on a show he ran for us, too. I asked him why he didn't just buy one Yamaha LS-9. He says, "3 Behringer boards are still cheaper than one LS-9." OK, but that's a lot of money on repair costs once they're out of warranty. My buddy with the LS-9 has two, got them when they first came out, and he hasn't resorted to the backup even once yet.

Personaly, I've seen & had good luck with their (Behringer) passive PA speakers & monitors....now the boards, rack gear and amps were pretty dismal. Been on the end of a ton fail with that stuff.
