The BIGGEST douche move onstage is...

My lisr:

  1. Insanely long dead time between songs
  • Spewing out constant profanity in a vain attempt to sound "cool" or "edgy" (people that do this are neither, and complete idiots to boot)
  • Long, wanky shred solos
  • Bad, shrill tone
  • Sandals
  • Hawaiian shirts
  • Shirtless
  • Instrument down to kneecaps
  • Excessive yapping between songs
  • Wearing Nazi regailia, corpse paint, satanic pentagrams etc
  • Smashing up instruments onstage
  • Instruments plastered with stickers

My (former) drummer/BL had a BAD habit of using profanity at gigs. Way too much downtime between songs to begin with, but without fail he'd swear like crazy every time he opened his mouth to talk to the crowd. Even at family type events. I've seen people leave in droves over it.

Note the word FORMER.

I can see corpse paint/pentagrams easily irking someone (i'm actually a huge fan of black metal so I know where some people are coming from). Nazi stuff is universally over the line. Even the majority of the BM scene shuns NSBM (nazi stuff). I've never quite understood that whole idea of third reich influenced music. You're definitely limiting your fanbase to about... nothing.

Id really have to say its that ridiculous flip thing that people do with their guitars/basses. That really annoys me! I get great pleasure out of watching videos where people mess it up and hit themselves or others :P

a mate of mine fell over a monitor and came up on his feet. looked like a flip but it was a fail and great recovery. this was at a huge gig somewhere in the states. i dont know the name of the band he was playing with but it on video somewhere. the guys name is micky howard. its quite spectacular.

From the long coat thread...........

"What's really douchey is all these threads lately worrying about what other people are doing:
Going shirtless
Wearing sunglasses
Using music stands
Playing reliced basses"

I am totally going to do all this and wear a long coat and rock the fake Brit accent next show. Douche-o-meter pegged!

x1000 I didn't decide to become a musician so I could conform to others expectations. Can I play? Heck yea, everything else is secondary. PS I think to many "tats" are kind of douche but i'll keep that to myself:D

...but I'd be willing to wager money that it happened somewhere between the british invasion and harry potter.

In the '70s it was not unusual to see American bar bands who had a lead singer with a fake English accent.

I guess they thought it gave them more cred.

Kinda like white boys in their teens and 20s singing blues and trying to sound like Howlin' Wolf. Major clown action.

I wouldn't but... As long as the crowd likes it, stays and buys drinks I don't think it's a bad thing.

Everyone's an actor at times, it's better if you're acting and making money than if your life is a charade.

I've read it's the height of uncool to leave your Snark tuner clipped to the head of your guitar.

When I thought it was the height of uncool to play a whole show out of tune, myself.

Edit: Apparently, I sing with an English-like accent. Usually the way I say long a's. However, I come by it honestly, as my first musical influences ever were the Beatles.

I don't talk to the audience like that. It's just how I sing.

Generally, I agree, though Joy Division did it in their early days with a lot of success, but it was also evident that it was symbolic of fascism rather than racially motivated or being part of any such group.
