The Combo Club

I have a B100 at work to play when I have free time, which lately means 2-3x annually! My little Ampeg BA-108v2 at home bit the dust after my kid cranked all the controls. It started off with a ticking sound, followed by the smell that accompanies when someone lets out the magic blue smoke.

Assuming I need to write that off, I'm hoping to replace it with something similar in size - maybe an RB108, an Acoustic B25C, an Orange Crush 25W, etc. Although it'll be harder to fit into my home studio, I may pick up a used 50W Orange Crush. Incidentally, this thread popped up in a search on the Orange amps. If it's not too much fluff for this thread, I'd love an opinion of two.

I will add a pic soon as I can to claim a number. As an engineer, I'd love to get #414

I love the Orange Crush combos. I got a 25 when I started playing after getting a friend to play through the amps at his local music store. They had Fender Rumbles and Orange Crushes. Hearing them back to back, I just prefered Orange. We have a 50 now, at church, and I love it. It keeps up with the rest of the band, and sounds very cool.

Having said all that, take my opinions with a (large) grain of salt. I'm still a rookie, and my experience is limited, having never seen 2/3 of the combos people here swear by...

If you have a chance, just go and play through a few, and you'll like what you like.

You're gonna LOVE it! My AT Cube 500 is a keeper! GR Bass makes both a 350 watt 8 ohm 112 (for the 500) and a 450 watt 8 ohm 112 (for the 800). I have been looking for the 350 watter forever and haven't found one yet. I need to get back in contact with the factory in Italy and ask them for a part number that the dealer I bought my combo from can order.

May I join the club please?

just before xmas and a local Cash Converters pawn shop had a ABM 410T cab for £99, being so close to xmas I wasn't sure if funds would work out and decided to see if it was still there after xmas.

On the 6th of January I went back in and it was still there so I decided to take the bait. Talking to the girl behind the counter, she said if I was taking it that day and paying cash, is so I could have it for £80. As their sorting out the sale, the assistant manager (who I've known for years) comes over and asks if I would be interested in the amp that was originally bought in with the cab? They had sold it but it was faulty so it was back in the store, I asked what was wrong with it and she said the sound kept cutting out and if I thought I could fix it I could have both units for £130 cash so I decided to take a risk (I still hadn't seen the amp at this point. I pay for them both while she sends 2 staff into the back to bring out the head. Here's what I ended up with.

That faulty intermittent output was just caused by dirt in both the input and volume pots. A quick spray with contact cleaner on all the pots and she sounds as good as new. The tolex has seen better days on both units but I'm thinks of re-covering both units in a cream tolex so its all good.

I use the combo alone as my main practice amp, I have it stood on the 410 mainly for storage reasons although it looks pretty imposing seeing it through the window from the street outside. I've also noticed I'm not getting as many noise problems with the neighbours playing their dance music till the early hours anymore.
