I delivered a lot of papers and then stocked a lot of grocery shelves to buy that kit, too. It went through a lot of changes over the years I’ve had it. Speakers were the first change, then I stripped the chassis and replaced the electronics with things that were articles in (IIRC) Popular Electronics. Then it was mods to the mods as I followed Jack Darr’s and Craig Anderton’s articles in various magazines. Somewhere in there I swapped the grille cloth from the Fender-ish silver to black on black. I still have the cab and the panel. I should look to see what’s in there ... where I left off.

Which brings us to a ritual we call Monday.
Used my Phil Jones BG-400 combo's DI to record four videos Sunday afternoon. The longest take is a spider exercise on the G and D strings to the 12th fret and back. And while not very interesting to see or listen to, what makes it interesting for me is the preparation of the material for "performance".

Yep, it was a decent little amp. Not very loud, certainly a slightly colored tone, but good enough to cover a small-ish room without a drummer. But once the GK arrived, I just could not see a reason to keep an amp I was not using.
Very nice! I was just thinking that it seems to me that much of my life is about trying to find ways to make what is "good for me" (like practice) also fun for me. Glad you have found a way to do that!
Still waiting.Well, after your gentle prodding, I wandered over to Reverb and found out that my offer for a replacement to my dear little MB150E-112 was accepted! Purchase made, waiting on shipping! When it arrives, I'll do a proper photo shoot and introduction.
There were a number of hoops to jump through in this purchase, mostly due to my attempts to talk the seller into shipping it rather than only doing local pick up. He was very cool about the whole thing, but our noobishness in the world of Reverb led to some unintended difficulties. Still, things are looking good now!
Plus I have my PBJ D4 in the meanwhile...

Yep, finally showed up. And the packing job was epic! I think the Samsonite gorillas could have had a field day with this and not effected the contents at all! I want this guy to pack all my gear from now on.
Once removed from its protective cocoon, Echo began his inspection.
(excuse the carpet-removed-but-not-yet-refinished wood floor)
Pulled it out and put it next to MB150E-112_1
"New" one has seen a harder life than my old one. I think it's second generation, given all the differences in layout and general design. Some of GK's changes I like, some not so much. It's also just about 3/16" taller. The distance seems to be in the section that holds the amp.
Was hoping that the amp could simply be swapped internally, but there are a number of minor changes that may make that impossible. Could mean that a repaint will happen instead.

Well, I'm not sure if it's my eyes that are making it seem so, but it does not quite sound as good as my recollection (have not played the other one since July) of how #1 sounded. Maybe the rougher look makes me think it does not sound as good? Maybe you really can't go home again?
Today was a long day, and I'm too tired to do a proper run-down. Tomorrow, I'll try to do a back-to-back comparison of them, and see how they really sound. The bass I was using (Shorty) tends to be a bit more uneven across the strings, so it may have been part of the problem.
So goes all the rest of my fun money for a while.

I can't recall if I mentioned that my Covid test came back negative. I still had to isolate until last Thursday. Unfortunately I am isolated once more. Leif was coughing at his mom's, so he couldn't go to school. Once he got to my place he stopped coughing. He hasn't coughed since this morning. Nonetheless we have to keep him home until we get the results of a Covid test for him. I had to teach my one course this morning while he was hanging off my back for part of it! So I don't think he is sick, but we are complying.
Good news, Doc. I’ll bet ya feel better (pun intended) about knowing that. Keep your wits about you and hang in there.
One of my close teaching partner who hangs around her aunt/uncle/cousin all the time found out that Cuz texted positive today. They were together, unmasked, last weekend. So she’s now quarantined until she finds out the result from tomorrow’s test. If it’s positive, we lose her entire class for two weeks; one-third of our fifth grade! It’s getting surreal out here on the prairie!
Like many others, I’m hanging in there but I’m wearing out with all that’s going on. They destroyed my library classroom this afternoon to set up for a socially-distanced board meeting tonight. Guess who’ll be putting it back together though? Not me, I have a 7:30 PLC meeting. The kids, most likely.
Finally, we have no substitute teachers at this time for anyone. Those asked have declined and we no one ready to step in other than non-classroom teachers. So the idea is now that our Essentials teachers, PE, Music, Art, etc, will be our subs for teachers out, and if that happens then the classroom teacher either becomes the Essentials teacher for that scheduled day or we keep them and do a study period. So yes, a day could come where I’ll have my students all day long, including lunch. I’m awesome, but these kids need a break from even me! Yuck.

That’s a tough one, R^2. Your heart and ears want the newer one to be the older one, sound wise, but it just may not. That doesn’t mean it can’t be great for you and your style, but yeah, you’re gonna need to work at dialing it in before deciding if it’ll work for ya.
While I think you can get it the way you like it, if you don’t get chills then I’d consider selling it to someone who’s heard about this particular amp and will take it off your hands for what you paid.
Get a good sleep and when you’re in the mood, give it a good try. Keep us up on your progress.
That sounds rough. Keep up the good work! We all have to power through this. its important for our students, whatever their age, to create a sense of normalcy for them. i'll be happy when things become normal again for sure. Lucky that we have bass and combos to get us through!

The kids are what’s keeping me going. If it wasn’t for them I’d be sitting in FL right now, rooming with GP’s Kasino! They are my electricity, no doubt. Yep, basses and combos will see us through this!
Thinking of getting the Orange 50 watt combo. What are the groups thoughts?

It's pretty cool. Sounds great, lots of flexibility. I miss mine.
While I've never played through one, I think it would make a great practice amp. I find myself using the "basic orangey dirt" setting on my Studio 40 quite a bit with the P bass - makes for a nice gritty, but fat and full tone. I know you'll get lot's of encouragement to pull the trigger from most of this group!
