The Combo Club

And we’ll have people to move them for us!
As much as I'd love to have that Kasino "module"(and if it was in FL, I would have it), I completely don't need it. I mean, it's unlikely I'll ever take the Kasino "combo"(LOL)outta the house any farther than in front of the garage door for pics, but the 'extension' would be awfully cool to have.

What didn’t work about the SVT?
Oh, it worked. I had it for ~3 years(in the same place), never could get the tone I wanted from it. From what I've heard about them since then, I prolly wasn't pushing it hard enuff. I bought it 'cos all the cool bass players were using them. Guess I wasn't cool enuff. I'd have been better off saving the $$$ and using my Kasino. It woulda been plenty for the room. Oh, well, at least I can say I had my SVT experience.

That one might be worth getting just for collecting purposes.

I may frame this response for posterity. And my guess is you didn’t start not giving a rat’s rump at 75. I started feeling that way at 50, but now that I’m 60 it’s in full bloom. Telling it like it is without the worry of soiling someone’s panties. Think about that one for a minute...

Prolly started around 55ish, getting stronger every day.

You guys started kinda late, didn’tcha?

I’ve been that way since my 20s...

I blame the three deployments to the sandbox.

You know I'd like to go get it, but I'm still fighting the "Italian condition": mufunzalo.
Oh, Mike!
:rollno:

Okay, CC!
Updates about the audition. T minus 7 days.
Here's the set list:
1. The Ocean-Led Zeppelin
2. Maria-Blondie
3. Goodbye to You-Scandal
4. Hit Me with your Best Shot-Pat Benatar
5. Jane-Jefferson Airplane
6. Lovin', Touchin' Squeezin-Journey
7. Tie Your Mother Down-Queen

The Ocean of course is the hardest, but all should be ready for a week from tonight.
I'm assuming it'll be me, one guitar, vocals and drums so I'm embracing the clackity clack of roundwounds on the maple neck of a Fender P like one of my tied-for-first bass heroes, Steve "'Arry" 'Arris of the aforementioned Iron Maiden to fill out the sound. I will also be checking out the Scrambler function to see if adding any dirt is helpful.

I'm getting the structure and riffs down okay so the next step is to start practicing with more volume. I'll crank the Cube a little more this afternoon/tomorrow then transition to using one and then two of the BA115s.

I'm not trying to be "that guy" so I'll bring in one BA115 and check out the guitar player's rig. If he has a small sensible combo, I'll go to wedge position and run the single Ampeg. If there are any signs of a half stack on the guitar player's part, I will pivot to the AH Ampeg Rig of Fury using both BA115s and then we'll all pay.

Looks like a fun set list and definitely sounds like you'll be prepared for all scenarios! Played with my band this afternoon for a few hours and we ripped into a little "Trooper" - got me a new callous on that one! Slowed it down just a tad - cause us older guys are getting slower!

Best of luck! Knock it out of the park!

Thanks, BH!
I’ll keep you posted for sure!
I’m a relatively new bass player and haven’t tried to play any Maiden yet myself. I’ve just been a fan since the 80s!
I know once I do, it’ll be a whole wormhole.

Do you remember Headbanger's Ball on MTV?
If we got to see the video for The Trooper or Run to the Hills it was like gold.
7th Son came out then I was in high school. There's a song on that album called the Clairvoyant which has a bass intro. My friends and I were trying to play guitars and be in a band and I remember being amazed by the "clackiness" of Steve's playing. We didn't really understand what bass was yet. :D

What kind of music are y’all playing?
Mainly metal?

Been playing with the same guys on and off for about 20 years. Kind of a power trio with occasional guest vocalist! Used to gig a lot, but not so much anymore. We do mostly original stuff we've come up with over the years. Black Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, Rush, Zep are all major influences and we'll cover some of their stuff too. I definitely remember and adored headbangers ball!! First time I got to see Maiden was 82 - they were touring in support of Number of the Beast - amazing show! Steve Harris one of my top 5 favs! We noodle around with the stuff, but you really need that triple guitar attack to do it justice. ;)

He knows I'm only jerking his G string! But not THAT G string..:roflmao:

If we can't joke around with each other, what's the point? Us older folk remember when society was bit more risque and accepting of poking fun for the sake of poking fun - you took it in stride and no one got "bent out of shape". I'm so tired of political correctness.... ok - I'll step off the bandstand now..
To be fair, I don't think it's "political correctness" that is behind this. But some of those who get bent out of shape are also people who trumpet being PC. Makes it harder to see that being "politically correct" is what we used to call "having good manners."

Sorry, putting the soap box away.

Look! Combos! :woot:

There’s quite a bit of firepower there.

Let Morrighan and I save you a ton of money. Run, don’t walk, and pick up an Ampeg BA-108 v2. Around a Franklin, it’s all you’ll need as a practice amp. Plenty of power, simple to use, Aux power level (which you’ll like if you use your phone for music), and the wedge-shape design. What’s not to love?
I'm starting to wonder how the BA-108 v2 compares against a PJB D4 or a GK MB150E112?

Thanks, BH!

Used to watch Headbanger's Ball in the TV room in my college dorm. A few of us would end up there, and enjoy some righteous jams together. Wonder what ever happened to those guys?

I think that Mac OS should be banned. It's not PC.
