i'm a big fan of the ampeg 810, it colours the sounds in all the right ways for me. haven't used mine in a while but i'll be pulling it out of storage soon and giving the 215s a break.

You have a '66!!?? I was gonna build one but opted for the 1212/6/1 instead and its more than enough for *any* situation(plus lighter than many 4x10's)... but I bet your 66' would be epic!!

My '66 is lighter than my old 410.

And to OP, yes 8x10's are cool and I thought about getting one, but I'm glad I didn't as i prefer a more flat response cab now!! Actually later tonite I'm playing a club here uses a fridge as a backline with a fender rumble head, and it sounds pretty damn good, but I much prefer my setup!!

My '66 is lighter than my old 410.

No kidding??!! Maybe someday ill take on the '66, but my 1212/6/1 just fits my backseat perfect...I have a small car LOL!!

View attachment 795787 Ampeg describes the 810e as the cabinet your band needs. Since getting one, i feel like my whole band sounds much better. The presence and punch of the bass is so much better than before when i had a 15 and two 10s. Anyone else here a 810 fan? I will haul it on and off stage all day so long as it is on stage for the gig. I think an 810 takes one's band to the next level. Anyone agree? Disagree?

I see three guitar half stacks on that stage. Yikes. I am not sure anything less than an 8x10 would cut through.

I had the SVT 810 for a while. You cannot beat the sound. Really. You also can't beat the back issues, which is why went to 2 410s for a long time. Same impact.

I will never turn down the chance to play one if backlined, but in most cases, it's not worth it at 2am, if I have to pack it up. With my rig, I am packed and in the car in less than 10 minutes.

Isn't your gigging rig (2) or (3) GK 112s?
I get the no horn complaint, but years of gigging and touring both 12's and an 810 and I can't relate to the low bass response comment.
If you were gigging 6 ported 12's I could understand your complaint, but if you're getting more low end response from your 2 GKs than a proper 810 something sure seems off...

I sold my last 810 two years ago- too damn heavy and bulky for my needs now, but always worked in the low end for me even in a loud slamming reggae/dub band. YMMV.

I have never experienced a lack of low end with an 810.

Ok. So it looks like I am moving in the right direction. I think the 66 is the only build option out of your cabs. I guess the wieght neo LFs are all the difference. Because the 66 doesnt look much smaller than an 8x10. Is it?

Not really, but it uses a much better bracing lay out that lets you use 1/2" ply which saves a lot of weight too.

SVT 212 sounds like an 8x10? I'd like some of whatever you are smoking.

Haven't heard the other 2, but I've never heard a 6x10 that really sounds like an 8x10. Not saying they sound bad, or even worse, but not the same. YMMV

I can't vouch for the others, but I have an NV610 (an older one without the tweeter) and it sounds close to a fridge, only with a bit more upper-mid bite. It isn't as loud as the fridge, but it's about 35 lbs. lighter and louder than I'll ever need to be.

That said, the fridge is still a classic that continues to earn its place on many stages.

Aren't those ported?

They are ported and they have a tweeter. Really like mine. Any retail music store can get them on order. They street at $999.00, just like the 810. I'm referring to the Ampeg 610 HLF.

I love the sound of the fridge.
I went through several head / cab combos with different brands over the years, but I always get the best result when plugged into the 8x10 and return to it therefore.
Although I'm considering (again) a cab which is at least a little lighter and less bulkier. Maybe one of those 4x10.

My problem is in the Pic the guitar cabs are mic'd and the bass cab is not.

Yea I never quite got that, unless the soundcheck has to be done in really tight schedule. When there is quality cab like that, its a shame most soundguys dont even bother trying to mic it.

Since a week I made the step to an 810. I was a bit doubting at first but hell, it sounds pretty good to me. My previous cab was a 410HLF Heritage, great quality but I realized it really was too boomy and had too much lows.
It seems that my 810 is from 2008, so it's a post-dark era cab and it's made out of plywood. Definitely a keeper !

Ampeg SVT-212AV | SVT Bass Cabinet

All amazing cabs. I've played them all (NV610 w/o the tweeter) with my SVT/Precision. While I liked all three a lot, and agree there are similarities, for what I want to hear/feel, I'm still playing the 810...
