Having the tweeter fire back into the mid chamber keeps your highs from beaming and drilling your ear if you are on-axis. They're wonderful to play with - they surround you with a gorgeous envelope of bass tones. I have a Mullard in V1 in my Reeves, and these really let you hear what a sweet, musical high-end it brings... :cool:

I'm driving to Chicago tomorrow with a pocket full of cash. Hoping to catch up with Mike A to have him build me a Bodai 2x8 with a 1200 watt ice built in and an extra 1x8 cab. Still thinking about those 10s though...

It's been a while since I read your original post, and all I can say is amen - you nailed it, brother. My backup/living room amp is a Mesa 800+, a very good sounding amp. I put a fresh set of Pure Blues on my precision this morning and checked it with the Mesa - nice. I took it to church and plugged into the C225 and was was transported to tone heaven again. It seems to me that a precision bass needs a good tube amp to really come alive. The Reeves sounds killer from whisper-volume to chest-pounding. It's a muscular, visceral beast. :cool:

Hey there SB! I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your Reeves C225! I certainly enjoyed mine while I had it! :thumbsup:

It's amazing to think that it was nine years ago when I got my C225 and started this thread. I don't even remember how long I had the Reeves and why I sold it. Oh well, it's all good! :)

Tube amps rule. Always have, always will! (IMO) :D

I checked your profile and you have had all there is. Can you give me a comparison with the NV215 to the Reeves 115? Thanks Bob

Hi Bob!

If my 62 year old memory serves me correctly (which it rarely does any more), I believe the Reeves 115 cabs are shelf ported. The Berg is, of course, sealed. So there's that fundamental difference. I think if I was considering those particular cab choices, I would lean toward the Berg. I recall being quite impressed with the NV215. Jim just seems to have a knack for making great sounding cabs. I don't recall being overly impressed with the Reeves 115 cab stack.....I wasn't disappointed or anything like that, I just wasn't "wowed". Berg cabs seem to bring a better sound than most other cabs IMO/IME. More "grunt" and great tone. I once had a stacked pair of ported Berg HT115 cabs, and those cabs sounded better to me than any other stacked pair of 115's I've ever used (that was with a solid state power amp). But if I were using an all-tube amp, I would go with a sealed design to help tighten up the lows since tube amps impart less cone control in the lower frequencies (IMO/IME). A tube amp with any of the Berg NV series is awesome, IMO! Sometimes when I'm sitting at home dreaming of awesome rigs, I think of having a 300 watt all-tube amp (like an Ampeg SVT-VR or Fender Super Bassman) and a stacked vertical pair of Berg NV212 cabs. Yikes, what a sound that would make! :) (if only I was still strong enough to schlep that gear!)

Unless I become unable to play for some reason, my son will inherit mine when I pass. :cool: (you and I are the same age!)

At my age, cab weight is an issue for me. I think if I was putting together a "big rig" today with an all-tube amp, I would seriously look at a stacked pair of Barefaced Four10 cabs. Alex's 10" driver cabs work well with tube amps due to those cabs having an easy impedance curve.

Well it's here! 2 very different flavors of awesome I now have. Was a bit overwhelmed with the potential tones possible out of the 225, but feeling pretty happy with how it's sounding. The comparison was excellent, and the 225 is very different thru the 610 and the NV115s.
