Hey Jeff,
Did you mic your cabinet or is that direct from your Rickenbacker, sounds killer what ever you did.
I bought the bass in September 2007 from a guy pretty local to here, so no, I didn't have it since new. It is in really nice shape, with just a bit of rough edges to it, and a snap on pad was added, probably back when it was new, as I have seen the exact same thing on a 4001 that a guy I knew in high school had.

The sound on the video was just taken straight off the camcorder's built-in microphone, picking up the PA system (Bag End Opal mains/Community subs, Presonus StudioLive mixer, don't recall the amps). As for me, it was the bass into my former Markbass F1 using it's DI to the PA, no effects, just me and my Herco .73 grey pick and TI Jazz Round strings (about 2 years old at that time).

While you're in there see if the neck rout has a skunk stripe of the shedua darker wood (ie, a 3 piece neck).
The split pick guard would indicate the early-style 4003, but a previous owner could have replaced it with a single-piece pick guard. The shedua strip (if visible) is a feature of the 4001, but not of the 4003.
Somebody be on the lookout for this one a MG with serial # 1234567 it said on the ric facebook it should be shipping to a dealer soon.
Well after 20 years of playing, I'm finally entering the world of Ric's. I just got this bad boy today, switched from the flats that were on it to circle K rounds, and played my butt off for a few hours. God, this thing sounds unbelievable. According to the serial number decoder, it's from Nov. of '76.

Mine is one of the infamous Musician's Friend MID sale Rics from summer 2011, but it's managed to survive and become my main instrument. It's a lovely thing with a lovely sound. Basically it has lived up to my expectations after years of desiring one. I've grown very comfortable with the body shape and the Treble Bezel helped alot with that. And the sound is so sweet it's hard to put it down.
I've since removed the p-up cover but otherwise she still looks like this pic from the day of arrival:
Yeah, I was there for a private function. There was a great band at the party, too.

Thanks guys! It's a 1982 manufactured 4002. As all 4002's it's got an ebony fretboard and fully bound, neck, headstock, and the body. The body is checker bound. The maple body has some wonderful figuring and the walnut finish really brings them out. It sort of looks like distressed leather, doesn't it?? It has been refinished by Dale Fortune a number of years ago. The finish is nearly flawless. Only one nick that I can find and that is too minor to dwell on.
I purchased it from a great guy who owned and loved it for many years.
Now for the sound, it seriously blows all my other Rickenbackers away. It has to be the best sounding bass I've ever played. Very growly, more so than any other Rickenbacker I have, and I have some pretty growly Rics! The neck is slimmer than any of my other Rickenbackers, The original humbuckers are very sensitive and versatile.
Everything on the bass works as it should and I'm still experimenting with it. I really have not been able to put it down since I picked it up yesterday.
