The Samick Club

Oh my god, there's a Samick club?! huh.
Anyways, I have one! :D
I don't really have any information on it but if someone does, please let me know.
I'm in the process of rewiring it to what I think is close to the original circuit. It's supposed to be active/passive from what I can gather, so that's what it's getting. It already sounds better now that I've replaced a couple pots and such. Sorry I don't have a better picture right now, I can't really get any natural light to take pictures with at 10:30 :P

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a bit more info on this Samick bass. All i could find is this is a more recent SAKB-567 but i cannot find anything about it's specs, production date etc. Also i am interested about how much would you willing to pay for one of these second hand and if they will be good for hardware/electronics mods. Thanks!

Wow ... a Samick Club! ... I'm in!

I have been playing a SDB569 AM for 15 years now (and are my fingers ever tired ... ha!)

I Love this bass! It is my main bass for gigging. If I had anything bad to say about it, that would be that it is hefty, but that is where the tone comes from.

I have played it enough that my fingertips have worn into the bridge pickup and through the finish above the E string. The original bridge cracked in both corners, so I replaced it with a Babicz Full-Contact Bridge. Their Fender replacement bridge is a good match, but I had to drill to install it. That bridge was a great addition, bumped up the resonance a ton. I play through a Line 6 amp, and after adding the bridge, I had to reconfigure all my saved tones. I used Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies, and am very happy with what I have put together.

Hi BlueFaust,

I call this 5-string Samick my own, but I'm looking for more detailled information as well.
What I can tell you about the bass that it's a SAKB, I bought it ca. 10 years a go from a local dealer in southern Germany for 500 €. The guy from the shop said, that the body is rosewood-maple-rosewood and he imported it from the states. It's got 2 humbuckers, active electronics (volume, balance, bass, treble), weighs around 4,25 kg, SN: S99111377, made in Korea. Plays really well, sounds good, quite narrow string spacing. No further informaton, beecause the dealer went out of business a 9 years a go :/
Here you can see it in action:
Thinking of replacing it with a Sandberg Basic 5 (the version with only one humbucker), but I'm not sure if I sould sell it (it was my daily-work-bass for 10 years...) and how much to ask for it.

BR,
Michael

Hi i'am new here @ talkbass and i own a Samick, that i have bought since 2 weeks. I have restaurated her and now she shines like a chocolate bar...she was in a very forgotten and ugly condition, but most of the rust has gone now.. the luck is, that she is in nearby mint condition..no big scratches or dings and dongs..

But i know nothing about her, i dont find any information about her in the internet.. i dont know the specific model number nor exactly the Date of birth.
I guess she is from 1991, because the serial begins with S91..

it's definitly before the Greg Bennett Aera, because of the open-Book-Headstock and she has no carved Horns....

SHe plays like butter and weight like a fly, only 3800 grams.

Even the original pups are good enough..the pots are very good, no buzzle or hazzle..even after so many yeard unused....

Hope, that anybody can help me to identify her, and sorry for my bad english, i am not a native english speaker ;)

thank you, but that page/catalogue is too new have checked all basses, but no one is similar to mine... my is definetly pre Greg Bennett :(

so i think there are not so many Basses like mine in the world...very special and exotic ;) very strange a big company like Samick in the 1980/1990/2000 and there are no information about their BAsses.... and my Bass is very noble and a charm to play.

My two samick basses are pre-greg bennett as well. I can't find another bass that looks like either one!
I saw one almost exactly like yours in my local classifieds, a 6 string version. He didn't know much either, apparently, since he was asking 600$ CAD...

Can anyone ID this beaut Samick bass that I just got ?? I know it is from the Artist series and that it's a Korean made model. It has an "S" 8 digit serial number which I reckon is just the date manufactured -1998 I think.(Pickup switch toggle tip missing in photo)
Any help with original spec etc would be appreciated.

VOLUME ISSUES WHEN SWITCHING BETWEEN ACTIVE AND PASSIVE ON MY CORSAIR CR-4
A short while ago, I picked up a Made in Korea, 2002 Samick Greg Bennett Corsair CR-4 off ebay for $68. A steal, but it was in pretty rough shape, and I had to put about a week's worth of work into shimming, cleaning, polishing and going through a very through and Full setup, just to get it playable. It's the better PJ configuration, wine red with maple neck and maple fretboard. In addition, it has both active and passive electronics, with volume, volume and tone knobs. The tone knob is a push / pull with active in the down position and passive when pulled up.
I will try to post pictures in the future, in the meantime, it' sitting next to my Rogue VB-100 as my avatar.
However, I do have a question about the active electronics.
If anyone else has one of these, have you noticed that the active setting is not as loud as the passive?
I really like the deeper tone that the active circuit creates, but, there's a noticable volume drop when you switch from passive to active, as well as a little hum.
I should note that I use Ampeg amps, a BA-108 for home practice and a BA-210SP for gigs, and always use the appropriate input, 0dB or -15dB, when in passive or active mode.
Any assistance would be Greatly appreciated. If anyone has info that this is the norm, then great. However, if it can be improved, short of a full pickup and electronics replacement, I'd love to hear what the fix or fixes might be.
