Really? When I was at NAMM, I was told that the preamp in the R500 had just as many (preamp) tubes as the Classic 300. I know the TA503 only has one tube, but I thought the R500 had more.

Interesting. That's what the site says, for sure. It's contrary to what I was told at NAMM, but I think they may have had pre-production units on hand back in January. That's interesting about the second tube in the TA503. I wonder what it's driving? Unfortunately, I can't load the .pdf file for the manual for some reason.

Lots of post on the LMII DI. Today the bassplayer in Lionel Loueke`s trio, Massimo Biolcati, used my MB rig(LMII+104HF) during a concert at the jazzfestival in Molde(Invalid Link Removed, Norway. The bass-sound was very good, and when I talked to the soundman, he said he used both the LM-DI and a mike, but ended up using only the DI cause it sounded so good.
So, nothing wrong with the DI on my LM...

BTW, check out this band, Lionel Loueke Trio, absolutely stunning!!!

I went to the Guitar Center in Canton last night, and they are finally carrying the Markbass line. I talked to Shawn May there (the guitar department manager and a great bass player who builds his own line of custom basses) and he said they already sold a few of the LMII's, and everyone that comes in and checks it out is blown away. They also had a 210 cab there and a combo, but I didn't have time to plug in.

I've tried it, and found the DI out is too weak to really drive a power amp to max output. It works, but kinda' defeats the purpose since you can't fully drive the power amp. The efx send is hot enough, but the efx loop is pre eq only, so that's also not a solution.

It's slightly bigger sister, the SA-450 would work fine, however, since its adjustable DI can get MUCH hotter (up to 2.5x hotter).

None have a "true" preamp out, however, so the real answer is, they just weren't designed with this in mind.

I agree with Vic, with one exception. And he and I discussed this when we visited in Las Vegas. I am driving a Bergantino IP112 cab/amp using the DI out from the LMII and it works famously. Sounds stunning in fact. The Bergie Input is apparently more sensitive than many power amp inputs.

I have not noticed any degradation whatsoever. I get more gain and volume than I'll ever need. Keep in mind my opinions are worth exactly what you paid for them! hehe :D Gary
