Does anybody know the price point of availability of the Studio Pre in the US? I'd love to check one out since I'm already using the LMII DI Out to drive my Bergie IP112/EX112 Stack. Very cool. I LOVE this company too! Gary

I tried this pre at NAMM, and I was quite impressed, though NAMM is not the best listening environment, and I'll hold off on any 'final verdict', but it did seem promising, at the least.

Tom.

Can I join? I just got a shiny new SD800 to replace my busted old SWR and I couldn't be happier. Best amp I've ever owned!:hyper:

P.S. While I was at GT buying the amp there was a Markbass magazine, and it mentioned this website and all the rave reviews they've gotten here!

Anyway, it isn't that Markbass is so great - it's that so many other companies in passing time have gotten so lame ; }

No comment... well, I guess that "no comment" was a comment so what the heck;)

That MB is doing what they're doing in certain niches is a great thing IMO regardless of how lame the competition may have gotten. They've raised the bar and that's only a good thing IMO.

Basically a company can ignore newer technology and innovations and forget about the obvious marketing niches yet to be filled, and customer desires like smaller and ligher or better performing, and just concentrate on keeping the prices up and The Name advertised and filled with Celeb Endorsements.

That makes room for actual decent companies to meet actual needs better ; }

1st full band practice with LMK11 and Epi 112/115-loved it. Plenty of power BUT, I don't understand/grok posts talking about master at 9 o'clock on a gig with a 7-piece band and no PA....I had input gain at noon (just shy of clipping with my passive Dingwall), master at 1 o'clock. This allowed a pretty light touch and good dynamics and will likely suffice for the 1st gig. VSE, VPL off, bass and treble flat, hi-mid at 11 o'clock, lo-mid at 1 o'clock for 95% of tunes. 1/2 vpl for slap and 1/4 vse for a couple of tunes.

On Sat. I used my LMII and Epi 410UL S-1 at a County Fair venue. Large circus type tent, all open sides, raised stage big PA support.
Put my cab on a Gramma Pad. Brought my TF for a backup amp. Sadowsky NYC VJ4 w/Nordy Singles, rw strings.

LMII settings.
Gain - 1:30
Masta - 12:00
Low- flat
low mid - 12:30
high mid - 12:30
high - flat
both filters at 9:00

Can you say WHOOPIN' !!

if you had the choice would you go Ampeg or Markbass?

that's basically what my search for a bass amp head has come down to... Ampeg or Markbass
IMHO, Markbass without an instant's hesitation. At least regarding the LMII class amps (450, 501, etc). I can't speak to the SD800.

Then again, I've always been at odds with Ampeg amps despite their well-deserved long-standing reputation... and I've tried multiple times to like them. Just didn't work out for me. I have problems getting what I want from Ampegs, but not so with Markbass (and several other amps).

Most likely my basses have their outputs set higher than yours. And I don't cut mids when I slap. And my cabs are very efficient. I get away with the pre at 11 and the master well below 12 on any gig I do, regardless of cab(s) used.

Room setup can make a huge difference in setting the master. I've noticed on most any head I've had that the amount of volume I perceive coming out of the head can vary widely with regard to where the master is set depending on the venue, even when using the same bass. In one place it might sound huge at 9 or 10 o'clock, and at the next place I have to crank it past noon for it to sound as loud.

If you have an active bass, it's good to have a reference point for how you set things there first, and then use your head to make additional changes. At least that is what works for me. It makes it much easier to dial in a useable sound in new places.

Thats a toss up for me. I love the Ampeg tone. The only thing I was less than thrilled about with my SVT-3 was the lack of headroom before clipping. This was a pro and con of the design though. For moderate volume it could not be beat.

Markbass + Sansamp would nail the same tone and be $50 cheaper and 20 lbs lighter. If I go back to Ampeg its ether an SVT-CL, SVT-VR, or the SVT-8 Pro. The 8 pro looks awesome, by the way.

Markbass wins for me.

I just wrote my experience in an another "little mark ii eq settings" or what thread. I just plugged after each other the world famous AMPEG SVTII PRO 200 tons 5631234 tubes 4 rack space, everywhere knobs nailing the sound...on full volume in a rehearse room, into a 4 ohm 4x12 Marshall bass cab, and then my tiny LMK, and at 10 o'clock master it was louder, and not to mention clearer, faster, more dynamic, articulate, etc. It was a new ampeg, new tubes, not old ones. So, if it were mine, I would piss on it, and sell.:D
Hopefully, I don't even like the famous ampeg sound.:p

Doesn't suprise me at all. No one with any credibility or knowledge has ever accused Ampeg of rating their gear conservatively....:hiding:
