Thunderbird Club

Todd is great. Always done his own thing. Could have been a very big artist since he apparently could knock out a pop gem in 15 minutes. Luckily he did that every now and then. Love his more experimental/proggy stuff too.

His '89 album "Nearly Human" is one of his best later albums but this performance surpasses the album version.

He’s a talented producer too.

I'm mostly immune to neck size, but my 2 NR's are more Jazz-like than Pbass like. Probably the best neck I have ever used was the Tony Franklin Pbass, and it was smack dab in the middle of a jazz and pbass.

So smack dab in the middle is my final answer.

Might be why I ike birds and Ric's

I think I'm heading toward single pickups, so they gotta be good, even considering volume only.

anytime you are in the neighborhood we got a Genz-Benz/Yorkville stack, a pot of beans on the fire, 2 NR's and a couch to sleep on.
What neighborhood?

It would, and that may yet happen. But I really don't want to get into changing all the black hardware out on it-- but I'm sure someone could make black PUP covers. Then there is the PUP placement.... PUPs would make a difference, but there's no addressing the placement issue. Right now I'm enjoying the LaBella black nylons. That gives it a different sound instead of trying to mimic the '64. I may even sell it at some point now that I bought the NR. Seems like I would recover my cost and then some given current prices. But I'm going to hang onto it for now. I've bought a bass and sold one to feel better about not having too many and regretted doing so. If I find that I'm just not playing it (plays so good I can't picture that), I may considering letting it go.
Never sell a Thunderbird. Never sell a Thunderbird…(except to one of us).

I've heard conflicting opinions on this subject.
Some say shaving the neck may weaken it's strength.
I’ve never done it. I know Ken checked on it for his NR, but decided against it after consulting the luthier who converted it to lefty.

I don’t have a problem with any of the different necks on all my basses. I don’t even think about it. Too busy just trying to play the right notes.

I'm still considering it, pending solid info on truss rod depth. The risk was hitting the cavity and ruining the neck. Maybe I can get it x-rayed.

the worst one…

He under valued the PUPs by $100 each IMO. And over valued the “husk.” He must not be a member here or he would have known better.

I don’t think I’d be in the market for a firebird base pickup for $200!

I’m leaning toward one of these for the DC, if I do that I may put the Duncan’s from my exploderbird in the EB..

Hi everyone! New Burgundy Bird here!
Nice to meet an active group of TB bassists, wish you have a great day, I’m coming from Fender and Modulus looking for another animal of tone, im in love with this bass, the looks, and I did not get the ear yet in the perfect tone, but I changed the factory strings for a DR pure Blues with 3 months of use, and im down for this setup!
Some pics from yesterday! Cheers!

Congratulations and welcome!

You wear them well and should do an album cover like that.

Once the basement is finished - a whipped cream photoshoot, lol!

Meantime, @Miles_ONeal is coming for a visit soon so I have to straighten up the upstairs music room - it's a small extra bedroom, surprising the mess one can create.

I think Lull has 5 string Tbird pups that according to our Queen are phenomenal sounding.

Those Burgundy NR basses just look so sweet. My GAS is getting nearly uncontrollable. I might have to take inventory of gear I’m not using anymore to fund my addiction.
It would be a great addition to your flock George. They really are all that.
