My Fender/Kubicki 9v pre assisted Saudersbird comes close... hummm, something tells me there is something in common...

Rics are hands-down visually/iconically cool. They can sound good also. I had one of the rare later '80s reversed tr/two piece pg, 2 extra screws in the bridge-plate versions called the 4004 and liked it ok but sold it for a profit. Like anything (cough - Thunderbirds) they have their cult base ... but a bass is a bass is a bass as long as you get-on with it.

I think that was probably an early 80's 4003, they had two piece (edit, pickguards) because Ric turned the truss rods around and the adjustment was at the body end under the pickguard, I had several of those, I thought it was a great idea, no more popped fretboards.

I have an '85 4003FL with a normal pickguard and two extra screws on the tailpiece.

Was it like this?

My experience with medical marijuana has been that those promoting it are mostly (but not all) marijuana enthusiasts rather than medical enthusiasts. Same with those promoting psychedelics for psychiatric conditions.

Those I know who are proponents are people for whom it's done wonders. Most of them weren't interested otherwise.

Yep - a 4003 (mis-typed 4004) but in Fireglow. They added the two wood screws to hold down the hollow tail-piece which was prone to lift from string tension. It was intro'd in '79 and was made until '86. Mine was an '85.

You can use the same Methyl Hydrate repeatedly. I don’t do it very often, but it works well. If you’re going to put old strings on a different bass, you may as well clean them.

Methyl Hydrate, I finally had to look it up I saw so many posts about it, it's Methanol. I confused it with Ethanol when I first saw it, BIG difference. I took Organic Chem I & II many years ago but suffer from CRS at times.

Nice, I didn't know those were still available in 1985, they must have switched half way through the year to the new truss rods. Mine's an '85 too but has the new truss rods and one piece pickguard. 4001's were available until 1986 though but they may have been left overs.


My 1985 4003FL, notice it also has two extra screws in the tailpiece, well they're hard to see.
