Thunderbird Club

Felix was one of my heroes when I was a young whippersnapper, wore out this album, course this is pretty clean.

I wore out Theme for an Imaginary Western as a young teen. I didn’t hear this until I was almost 19, and it replaced TfaIW as my fave. I have all three album versions. The two sided version off the double vinyl live album is pretty cool but my favorite is the single side version on “The Road Goes Ever On”. And not that clean. You can hear where the bass is pushing the amp through a lot of the song.

Great set list, I don't think I've ever heard anyone cover '2000 Light Years From Home' before. 'Fire in the Hole', love that tune. Used to do 'Bulldog', love McCartney's bass lines. Hey, you need a bass player?

:) Thanks! What an absolute blast we had today! Winters' had a good crowd of locals, a few biker dudes/dudettes, and Kirstin's husband, mom & dad and sister came (friends were baby-sitting Umi). Zach's twin (bass -player) brother was there and his parents came for the second set. Plus my Pacifica crew, making for a very intimate and friendly experience. They upgraded the PA/on-stage monitors which sounded awesome! For the very 1st time playing there over many years, I could actually hear our bg vocals.

Without much work, we dialed in one of the best levels I've ever heard there. Vocals were on top and clear, (not one squeal) and we had a dynamic, well balanced sound throughout. My bass rig never sounded better. I had all amp levels neutral and primarily used the Bass IV which sounded great. The Ashdown/JBL provided solid chocolaty bass presence with just enough mid/top-end to be articulate. This bass/amp combo really sits well in the mix - they will be coupled again. I used the Teiscobird (only) on Heroes, and ended the night with Wichita Lineman. We played it in set 1 but CJ (Tavern owner) wasn't present, so after he showed prior to set 2 - we played it again dedicated to him (he loves that song, as we do!) and Corinne for making Winters' such an awesome establishment for live music in the Bay Area.

Bond Girl Cherie provided a middle set duo with bass-player/guitarist/singer songwriter friend Mark of standards, Bond material and originals. It was nice hearing Mark play through my rig so I could hear it from an audience POV. He played his own bass (Peavey) but I always like when other bass players play my basses as each player has a unique/different approach, which allows you to hear the way your bass sounds objectively.

Anyway - couldn't have had a better B-day. Pics & vids were taken, so we'll see what got documented.

Here's a music video with a T-bird that not too many people know of.

Yeah, it makes fun of Pete Townshend's mantra "Hope I'll die before I get old" but the song itself is just a nice little rocker.

I like it! Very cool pop song with influences from the Beatles and others.

I remember the first time I put some headphones on and really heard what Peter was playing. I was aaaaaamazed.

As a teenager, I mainly listened through headphones, or if my parents were gone, through their excellent Magnavox console. Either way, I could hear everything clearly, which helped a ton in my musical development,

That bass in the middle picture on the right looks something like my first bass, bought used in 1967 for twenty five bucks, except mine had a single pickup, that's a long scale? Mine had no name.

Hey Bob, mine I’ve guessed from other photos to be c1968 so that could be right. Mine has a 5 screw neck plate with the word JAPAN inscribed (no “made in”). I got it free and it had its OHSC - complete with slogans written on it and a busted lock.

Mine has a barely legible “Challenge” in script on the headstock and is 33.25” in scale (Rick scale), and 2 single coils in (comparing to photos) approximately Rick 4001 spots.

I just got it back from a couple of days at the Drs. Had Chromes put on and some surgery to reduce the action. It was high enough to limbo under before! I threw the foam mute I was using with the other strings and played around with the pickup blend and hey now I get something other than thump thump thump, which I liked ok, but this is better. Maybe helped by being able to venture north of fret 7 now.
I can get a burpity bop out of it now and it is really in its own spot now apart from the Birds and the P copy. For now at least.

Do you know anything of the origin of your old bass?

Never really had much experience with pedals and power supplies. Thinking of a pedal that the power supply is 9VDC-18VDC, 40mA max. I have some power supplies that are over 40mA. Will one of those work since they will supply that (and more if it were needed), or must it be matched with a 40mA supply?

The rating on the pedal is the max current the pedal will pull, so it’s the minimum current needed from the supply. Does that make sense? In your case, a 40mA or larger power supply is fine.

:) Thanks Kara - as I said... Caps rule!

Some Caps :D
I spotted in my walk today. Just at the top of my street. Never knew they were there til this morning

Do you have someone to sing the high part in Oh what a night?
Not that it'll help Irv, but I have a stupidly high falsetto. Most of y'all have heard my natural, baritone-y voice on a coupla videos I've posted. I have no 'high mids'("Ah ain't no Country tenor"), but A above the treble clef staff is no problem and the C above that is possible with a little practice.
