It was only because it was the first bass he ever built (he mainly built guitars and lap steels) and didn't like the idea of doing something as drastic as routing an extra pickup hole to it. The '51 P is a beautiful design as it is.
He did admit it sounded good afterwards 'though.
The reason there is the "Area 53" in the headstock instead of the builders name "Tyyster" is because it was the very first bass he assembled and, to quote him, "if it ended up as a piece of s*!t it won't ruin my reputation".
There's also "Made In Korea" in the back of the headstock for the same reason. Needless to say, it's great and I won't be selling it ever. When I bought it off him I first said I need his logo to the headstock but then I thought what's the point? Ruins a good story.

Although similarly grotesque - I personally prefer the extravagance of design of the more naive generation of post war excess.

Wow! If you’re an outdoorsy person and like to hike in the woods and swim in the ocean you better know your hazardous species and what to do if encountering them.
Sounds like there’s a lot of danger down under, but still a place I’d love to visit.
In the US we have a lot of aggressive land animals (Bears, Alligators, Crocodiles, Mountain Lions, Badgers, Wolverines, Wolves, Wild Boar and ex Wives) but not a lot poisonous stuff other than rattlesnakes, water moccasins a couple of spiders and divorce attorneys.
Seems like weather events here - Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Flash Floods, Mud Slides, Avalanches, Wild Fires, Volcanoes and Blizzards are our biggest nature related killers.
