So I took my new-to-me Lull PT5 to its first gig, and as soon as I plugged it in, I noticed a lot of high-frequency buzz. It was not affected by touching the metal parts of the bass, or by reorienting the bass. It was coming from both pickups, so turning both pickups all the way down was quiet. In contrast, my backup bass (active Nordy) was totally silent in all settings through the same amp.

I didn't notice the buzz at home because it was much softer, but I guess with my amp cranked up (no PA support for a hard rock band) it was kind of shocking how loud the buzz was. Sadly, it meant I couldn't use my new Lull... :(

Any ideas what this might be coming from, and how to fix it? The bass is passive with a VVT control setup.

Sounds a lot like RF interference. If your pickup cavities and control cavity (including the cover) aren’t shielded you should do so. It might or might not solve your specific problem but it’s the right thing to do regardless. Also try different instrument cable lengths and brands. I had a monster cable that would set my Warwick bass off the same way, no other bass, just the wick. And always check the ground with a multi meter when having these types of problems.

Both Jimmy and Tom have been a great help over the years. Always willing to share info. Jimmy really helped and guided me in my Ampeg journey.

Just for fun I tried to get into that ballpark with my non-rev and pedalboard. I slightly boosted 1,2 khz and had an overdrive in a loop mixed with low passed cleans.

Correct you are - the schizophrenic manic depressive blood sucking sweetheart I married got the VW Bug while we were married (and later acquired my AMX in the divorce). Not to mention I sold my Very Good condition all stock 1964 1/2 Mustang with a 289 HiPo to buy her wedding ring.

It was my current wife (she hates it when I say that) and very special love that I’ve adorned with a little red 1986 Alfa Romero Veloce Spyder, a 1971 little red Corvette Convertible, a little red 1999 Jeep Wrangler, a 1995 scarab green Saab 900s convertible (they didn’t have red), a 2005 black Jaguar X-Type (wanted British Racing Green, but none on the lot), a 2013 seafoam green Gucci edition Fiat 500, and a 2006 triple black Porsche Boxster S. She doesn’t know it yet but I’m eyeing a nice Aston Martin Vantage to replace her Boxster.


Not only is that an Eppi CP, but it’s one of the very limited run magic CP’s that are so highly regarded around here. The one year that had unique pickup locations for an even better sound. Jump on it quick before someone else does.


Some day, Scott’s roadie and hobby bass player Geddy will learn to use a pick. When that happens he might even hit the big time, until then he’ll be pretty limited in what he can do on a bass.


If it’s a 2013 CP, make the impulsive purchase! Well worth that money and hundreds more.

No idea on what the outcome of her stupidity was, she slammed the phone down on me after I asked if the AMX got totaled and if the other driver got hurt, but didn’t ask her if she was ok.


Actually the Warwick Club is a pretty cool place, not nearly as active as here but most everyone on it is very cool. There just happened to be a couple of strong opposing opinions on what to wax your wood with. A lot of the Warwick basses utilize just wax as a wood finish. So to keep the wood healthy and in top condition it needs to be treated a couple times a year at least (unless you have a stained or painted and sealed finish). I personally use the wax Warwick sells, which ain’t cheap and can be hard to get at times.

Why not paint it like you were planning on doing to a VP?
BTW - the CP you’ve selected has pretty much the same pickup spacing as the VP -but- it has the darker sounding Gibby Tbird+ pups. That’s a wonderful combination. If it turns out to not be your thing, ping me and I’ll take it off your hands.

...if interested - streamed BG show from last Sat night > [2:30:30] First band "Birdz of Prey" were really cool - good bass-player/lead vocalist. (8 players on the relatively small stage!)

Hotel Utah has a long & rich history in SF. This was 'live streamed' from the balcony - a good place to hear/see the bands.

Cool! I got a kick our of seeing what seemed like 13 people on stage trying to get set up at the beginning! Talk about no room to fart. Other than that, seemed like a cool place.
