I remember when it hit 122 back in the 90's. They shut down the airport because Boeing manuals didn't have flight data for temps that hot.
Sounds weird, but that's what we were told.
Actually it makes perfect sense. The air thins out as temps rise, so you have less lift at s given speed. If they haven’t tested, they don’t know the safe speeds. They also don’t know the results of greater than normal expansion, which could result in anything from material fatigue to connectors failing. And more.
 
See, if you lived here, (Washington) you'd be happy, it stays reasonable in the Summer and there's really low humidity, so much so, that when it does happen it's almost novel.
You'd love the southeastern part of the state, it's simply beautiful. Small towns, rolling hills.
I only made it out go the coast when living there, kick myself for not having gone east…
 
Back when 2 and 3 transistors were the norm for transistor radios, I bought one of my sisters a 7 transistor radio for Christmas. It had wimpy reception and ate batteries like crazy.
But you could walk around with it and be the cool kid! The boombox of the 60s.
When I reported to my first ship in 1982, I worked on UHF AM transceivers (AN/SRC-20 for anyone who cares) that was all tube except 2 transistors. Later I switched over to a mostly transistorized HF AM transmitter/receiver pair and kept responsibility for the VHF FM and AM transceivers. When I first got there, the VHF AM transceiver, used only to monitor civilian air distress at 121.5 MHz, had removable crystals. That radio was older than the ship and me both. Ship commissioned in 1964, Roger commissioned in 1960.

Yeah, I just figured that, there are many places on this planet that get hotter than the Sonoran Desert .....

And the idea that Boeing wouldn't have included test results for every conceivable scenario "world wide" seemed a bit odd to me.

Don't know about the ship, but at least you're still in service!

I have to say that I really am a huge fan of Fred Turner, he's got a great voice and is quite the bassist - still going too!

:thumbsup: Fortunately I got to see them - 80ish. They were good live, unlike some bands that are marginal in that setting.
