Thunderbird Club

Thursday!

Doh! I missed the last TT as usual...recently I've missed so many things here.
But nothing new happening in my T-Bird or related world, no new basses or even pickups acquired. The pair of TB+ are looming in my shelf quite ominously as if they are whispering in my ear to what parts to get. That in mind, a fretless P with an unlined rosewood neck and a those pickup in G&L or Wal -ish positions could be something that....see, it happens all the time!

I did record with the Decola -equipped Telecaster and got a rather good zeuhl -type sound. I played the drums too and for once I was satisfied with the playing. Just a short excerpt here:

Beautiful bevy.
Thanks!

What I find most interesting about the Thunderbird offering is that there are so many variations available in the voicing of these birds.

That pic has a Greco that sounds nothing like the ChinaBucker equipped NR, which sounds nothing like the Lull equipped Petersson Reverse, which sounds nothing like the TB+ equipped Eppi CP. there are just sooo many options out there for TBird voicing it’s actually one of the more versatile bass styles I’ve found.

Here's a project for you. Put the same strings in all of those basses and record a sample riff with each through the same signal chain, so everyone can hear the difference in the pickups. Many have asked about the sound of Greco pickups especially, so an all-else-equal comparison would be really nice. If you have the time and inclination.

Very nice! This got me thinking should I make a black pickguard for the Alpine White VP. On the other hand the tugbar would be useless then ('cause it would be invisible!) and I'd lose the Martin Turner qualities. If the pickups were black...hmm, those TB+ pickups lurking in the closet....no!
