Yeah, seems like a good idea. Especially for the living room, when my GF is off for the summer and I don’t want to wake her. I do have my Ampeg SGT-DI setup on my bench in the garage, ready to go for headphones, but it’s just the grab it and play it for a few minutes scenario that I’m talking about. That’s when I notice the little “less than perfect” playability of all my basses, whether it be strings for various tunings, and or action or other strange vibrations (like a loose bridge saddle), and adjust accordingly.

I do most of my home rehearsal (wife WFH)
Via GarageBand and IEMs.

REALLY highlights every flaw (mostly mine)
Now if only I could get the other members to monitor this way! Live..

Ha! Thx Miles....yeah my brother went with my mom's maiden name (much to my dad's discontent) because he thought Pagano (latin: Pagus) had too much of a negative (Pagan) connotation.....

Magnetic pull is rated by gauss. I have scene a few different magnets used in T birds to try and get the gauss up in these t bird pickups. Some have had custom Alnico 8 magnets made. The only way for a comparison is if gauss readings can be taken from the other pickups. Most people do not have a gauss meter laying around so no readings available.

Reading in these pictures shows how much more gauss the small Neodymium magnets have than standard A5 T bird magnets and how much stronger the A5 is at the top of the pickup with the Neodymium under it. This was done to simply boost the factory pickup without changing it to much. There is also a custom build available that would stick out of the bottom of the cover like later Thunderbird pickups that have full sized Humbucker magnets. Shown in the 3rd picture. This also gets the gauss up and can be had with Neodymium or not

I would assume the Neo has the same frequency response as A5 magnets?

Neo has more of a flat eq. If compared to Alnico it would be more like A4 with a bit less highs.

Curious too.

Neos are kinda flat , thats why they are used in bass usually. Bass needs gauss , neos have the most and sound like A5's big brother in bass. When mixed with A5 it makes A5 sound like it went to the gym and got big. Recently a long time customer and friend reqested something different for his Doom metal needs. After some back and forth we agreed to try A4/Neodymium for a powerful mid focus pickup with enough gauss to handle drop tunning. Still waiting on his Luthier to wire up his guitar. This is a very custom build. Had to make the blade and bobbins , laser cut the top. Wound to 16k

I put Hipshot US Y Key Ultralights on my Eagle. I'm pretty sure that screw hole would be covered if I ever went back to the original tuners. It's nowhere near as rare as your lefty Bodine though.

could you share any detail on how they measure/test for freq response? if data from a manufacturer I would expect a JEDEC std or something along those lines?
