Thunderbird Club

I’m looking forward to closing on a home in he desert, where I can start building in earnest.
Wife is pushing for me to open a storefront to horse trade musical equipment: and to hawk my own brand.

As they say: love what you do and you’ll never “work” a day in your life!

2026 / 27 is shaping up to be VERY bright indeed.
One reason I'm not ready to retire. But it does seem like work a good bit of the time.

Your wife is very supportive! I’ll be a customer, regardless if it’s out of the house or a storefront.
She is! , or she wants to get me out of the house.
Honestly part of the relocation is to help my Mom out, and my brother: who I could employ at the storefront.

I’ll likely just scale up what I’ve been doing for decades, finding low prices neglected instruments, spruce them up, and turn a modest profit.

In Palm Springs there is a lot of $$ and a lot of people letting go of their collectibles.

So far I’ve not been able to find a decent Mi shop that does repair, and consignment.

So there is an opportunity.

I don’t know. And won't know for about five more years. The basement is full of projects that look at me with baleful stares due to the neglect they have suffered. They will get some love eventually, if only to get them to quit making me feel guilty.

Actually, I believe it. There are a lifetime of things I have not got to but want to do. The day job, as much as I like it, is a limiting factor.
You’re fortunate. I literally wanted to throw up every morning when I walked into the home office and turned on the computer. Every day became a day filled dealing with uncivil attorneys and untrained clueless insurance adjusters. All the good people retired. I joined them.

Every one of the 4 I've owned were exceptionally nice, including the one Tribute M2k. A blue burst I should not have sold but I was buying some vintage basses and something needed to go. The M2000 was nice, just uninteresting to listen to. Might have had something to do with the blend knob as opposed to the typical switch or even a VV option.

The red burst with binding is very uncommon and the burst is also on the back. It's likely the prettiest bass I've owned and the most tight and aggressive of any G&L. Was thinking of selling it since I got the '66NR and the donor Epi Embassy I'm keeping. Already have my ad written up, but might hang on to it now to see what happens with G&L.

And this '81 HOG is incredible looking and sounding. I can't see it ever going except for some infirmity. There is some Leo magic in this one. Maybe touched it and that's the secret!

IF
This Does work out: West Coast GTG has a hosting spot !!!!

I was going nuts the other night. Playing any bass through the Carbine was buzzy like that. What the heck? My wife had been watching TV when I went upstairs. I finally went downstairs and she had turned on the dining room light. It has a dimmer switch. Duh. Issue solved.
I realize this is way belated but sometimes unwanted sounds from a tube amp are a result of a loose tube connection. Way back after disuse on my sailboat on the Gulf Coast of Texas, I got this whooshy, hissing sound from my Genz-Benz 6.0 T. Turned out that the preamp tube connection was a little loose. It's an odd arrangement with am aluminum arm with a rubber grommet that pushed down on the top of the 12AX7 tube. So I removed it and bent the retainer down a bit to add more downward force and also slightly bent some of the tube prongs to provide physical tension. Then I sprayed some high-end contact cleaner in there. Problem solved!

“Long Way to the Top” was a 6 part TV documentary in 2001 celebrating Oz Rock n Roll, Rock and Pop from the 50s on. Also came out in a 3 CD set which I have, although they interspersed comments / commentary from the artists through the cd so a track might be the song plus a comment / memory from the artists through. Which was good at the first listen but sometimes you only want the music.
In 2002 they took it on the road and wheeled all the oldies out (ok, only the live and mobile ones). Sell outs around the capital cities. That would be where that clip was from. Billy Thorpe was probably the “King” of the LWTTT Concerts. Ironically AC/DC didn’t appear but Billy lead the ensemble in playing LWTTT to close each show.

Edit: I would have loved to be up ^ there with that mob playing along to that

Way impressed with Billy Thorpe having seen concert footage of him in the late-70's. Sounded as good live as in the studio- "Children of the Sun"!!!

Recent re-purchase from a small upper Oregon (mostly metal) used LP shop - "Blowin' Free" gets a lot of attention, but this song is very cool and an outstanding example of Martin Turner's melodically focused (T-bird) playing in 1972 - I saw Wishbone Ash in KC/MO in '73, and bought my '63 II the following year.

My first thought upon seeing your post was "Avalon" by Roxy Music. But Wishbone Ash got there first!!
