My EB-2 has a Dimarzio One pickup instead of a stock mudbucker. I have not played anything with a stock mudbucker, but have loved the sound of that EB-2 for more than 40 years now. It is mostly retired now.I really need to try a good mudbucker bass. About 5 years ago I tried a guitar player's Epi EB-3 for a few days and thought is sounded awful. So wanted to like it. I was even going make an offer if I liked it.
Oof! Especially around here. I didn't think about that very much. Time to stop thinking about it very much. It's not a thought I particularly want.... not ro mention the bacteria count from street runoff...
my problem is I really like them......Yes. I had an Epi EB-3L. Liked playing it; neck was similar to my 67. Dove like a Stuka. Much more than my 'Bird.

There’s a site for that.

Maybe being slotted it wouldn't dive as much?
This is pure EB-3, no Mudbucker and a pile of Marshalls. Drums, Guitar, Bass and vocals everything has its own sonic "space" and there's plenty of "air" between the notes. Fraser is brilliant, spare at times, then fluid when called for, an incredible talent at 18 years old. I love this band, no second or third guitars needed, just these basic elements, its raw and simple.
One of those is a little like a Rickenbacker 4005. They are beautiful, and I want one of each. Mostly to hang on the wall and look at because they are beautiful.
I liked the bass line. Didn't like the tone. When I played it with a band in 71-72, I used the Mudbucker until I got to the "solo", then switched to the bridge pup 'til the vocal came back in; then back to the Mudbucker. (switch positions 1 & 2, easy switch. That's with the 4 position switch on my 66 EB-3. The 2006 Epi EB-3 had a 3 position switch- 1, bridge, 2, both, 3, neck)I love the syncopated parts of the bass line. That kind of thing was fairly common then and seems to have fallen out of favor. It's a shame.
Not to worry, the oysters are busy eating as much of it as they can.Oof! Especially around here. I didn't think about that very much. Time to stop thinking about it very much. It's not a thought I particularly want.

It ain’t the money when it comes to toys like that. It’s that I don’t really need more basses that I would be unlikely to play very much. You have two kidneys. What's the problem?
Cheaper than a Thunderbird…
Well as far as electric bass guitars go there was this one, it’s even older than you!Cool idea, but notalotta bass gee-tars from 1945.![]()

They were a project with Lakin as he was trying to dig out of the post Lakland mess he got himself in. There was the Ashdown version and a way more expensive version with only his name on it. Not sure how many of either one ended up being made.Ashdown Thunderbird? That's a new concept.
yep, sounds pretty good too.....Well as far as electric bass guitars go there was this one, it’s even older than you!

AFAIK, no modern Epi shipped with a true mudbucker. Theirs are more like 1.2K than the typical mudbucker 30k (YZMV). That's not to say they don't sound good. It may be why you prefer this over the old EB.Shout out for the Epiphone EB 3.
Mine is a 2018. Got it for a steal from Sweetwater new.
I think it’s more solid and better playing than an EB3 I had in the 70’s. And long scale to boot.
The stock pickups sound fine to me after putting a set of RS 66’s on it.
I’ve been going through my collection of stuff after knee replacement in December.
This one was hiding in a closet.
Recommend, especially if the come up cheap on CL or marketplace.
Cheers!
Edit..The dust has been cleaned off of the headstock now. I guess I should be checking these more often.
