Do is see a Buzzard headstock and a Spector? Now I feel like a can come out-

Some might say I went off the deep end- well I was in the deep end fighting for air when this happened during my Florida stay alone for three months through the holiday season-

I had to re-record the bass line for the one metal song I'm working on. When I started recording the guitar parts in the intro, I found that I had one or too many drum fills and wound up eliminating a full bar. The most recent bass recording was with my G2 Thunderbird back in the Houston, Texas area, and the Fender Jazz bass I had purchased for other tracks wasn't quite getting the vibe for that particular song and the Ibanez GSR 200 wasn't as comfortable to play-

So this happened after receiving an eBay offer I couldn't refused though I had let go a mint lower priced poplar burl topped model and a brand new lower-priced Doug Wimbish one. Don't what to say but I was Jonesing for a model in matte black. Well, at least it matches the décor-

Then I had a more varied palette to work with for the much more protracted stay than I had intended - two weeks stretched into three and a half months away from my home base-

Beautiful basses!

Everybody should be so lucky to have a Spector and Warwick in their arsenal (I didn’t say Fender, because everybody already has one of those). Actually, my Spector Rex5 Pro is what brought me to this club about ten years ago. At that time I didn’t own a Gibson or Eppi Tbird, just the Spector Tbird shaped thing…

I had read countless posts on Talkbass about what a horrid disaster the Gibby Tbird is - epic neck dive, headstocks that snap off for no reason, quality control completely lacking, sound like mud, one trick pony with a lame leg, ergonomic disaster, way way over priced, zero customer service and an overly obnoxious CEO. Needless to say, I steered completely clear of the Gibby/Eppi brand.

Until one fine day around 2015 when I stumbled across a relatively rare limited run SG Supreme in Lava Burst that I thought might make an interesting investment. Once I got I I realized how great it was built and how nice it sounded, a far cry from what I was told I would experience with that bass. A few months later I ran across a very nice looking 2012 Thunderbird Golden Anniversary bass, and figured what the heck, it’s a limited run and might be an ok investment, so I bought it and again was taken back by how nice it looked, played and sounded as well as the fit and finish. It was then I realized that Talkbass is packed with posters that don’t have a clue about Thunderbirds and simply parrot a talking points they’ve read or heard.

Fast forward about 10 years and 30 thunderbirds later and I can honestly say I couldn’t be happier with the direction I’ve taken my bass acquisitions. Do some Tbirds neck dive, yep, but none of my Gibsons, and only a couple of my Eppis. All fixed with a proper strap and pin location. Do headstocks fly off for no reason, no, but because of the tilted headstock design it’s gonna be the first thing that hits the floor if you’re stupid enough to lean it against something vs keeping it in a stand when not used. Does QC suck, I’ve seen worse and I’ve seen better, but most everything I’ve seen is cosmetic and not glaring. Do they sound like mud, absolutely not, and they are much further from a one trick pony than any P bass I’ve owned. Ergonomics could be better for most people but there are folks that just fit a Tbird nicely, I’m one. Was their old CEO a moron, yes, fortunately that’s been corrected, but even if he was still there it wouldn’t even remotely come into my decision process to buy a Gibson. Heck look a Rickenbacker’s CEO and Warwick’s CEO - both can be complete tools, but their basses are stellar.

BTW - the Buzzard shaped headstock is not actually a Buzzard, it’s Alembics take on the Buzzard bass they custom designed and built for John Entwistle but unfortunately wasn’t completed before he passed away. They haven’t made many of them (maybe less than 25?) and it’s stunning in looks, sound and craftsmanship…

Chuck Negron, a founding member of Three Dog Night whose lead vocals powered a string of hits including "Joy to the World," "One" and "An Old Fashioned Love Song" for one of the top rock acts of the late 1960s and early '70s, died Monday. He died of complications from heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at his home in the Studio City neighborhood of Los Angeles. He was 83.
Three Dog Night was the second live band I saw as a teen. I had their LP's. (first live band was Paul Revere & the Raiders) There's a doc about 3DN on YouTube that I watched a while ago.

No Warwick. Only Greco.
No Spector. Only Epiphone.
No 7ender. Only Gibson.

No other bass. Only Thunderbird.

So far. Maybe forever?

Ahh, but she was Daryl Hannah back then. She was great as was everyone else-

Have you seen the "making off" series of the film? It's on one of the disks in the collector's editions DVD sets. In the actors section she tells how she unintentionally went through the non-movie glass on Sebastian's van, cutting her elbow in the scene where he spooked her from her hiding spot outside his apartment complex.

Which movie are we talking about?
Blade Runner?

pretty smoking huh......could be wrong but don't think we'll see another James Brown anytime soon.....scary good showmanship....was looking to see if the bass player had the covers on his but they don't show him......the whole song is bass for Christ sake....not really surprised.....:rollno:
