Someone in gp is doing a huge photo essay on this years NAMM show. Very kind of them to go through so much trouble to photograph all that stuff and post it online for others. Sadly, at least 95% of it is wasted on me. I’ve never been the target demographic for the fancy wood wizard basses. And after all these years, still the majority of basses are a ripoff of a P or J. On one end of the spectrum, they’re ‘improved’ versions of Fender's that cost way more. On the other end, they’re ‘just as good, but cheaper’ versions. I can’t judge. My only ‘P bass’ is a Gamma, since I recently sold off my ‘76 Fender. Don’t miss that particular bass at all, but it’s weird after all these years not to have one single Fender in the music room.
To me, my Cataldo NR41 with the TB ‘63 scratches the P bass itch. It has similar qualities.
