Thunderbird Club

View attachment 3165779 This is the bridge on the Epi Pro-V I bought on ebay. What is it? Besides weird.

Also, are the nuts typically metal on the Thunderbird Pros? Mine is fairly heavy (brass?) and did not appear to have ever been attached- just held in place by the strings. More or less.
Its a pretty standard top load bridge. I had one mounted on my Goff Bird. Works and adjusts like pretty much every standard bridge.

Most nuts on reasonably priced these days are plastic, and are typically only held in place with a drop of glue...or nothing at all. Brass on a Bird is prolly aftermarket, unless it's a Gibson or custom.

I'm familiar with standard nuts, which is why this surprised me.
I'm just wondering who makes the bridge. And why the heck it has only 4 screws (none under the B string). I'm guessing a previous owner had it off, and that's why one of the screws is different. But it's not flush, looks torqued. I'm going to have to take it off to see what's up.
The pickups have dense foam glued to the bottoms, and it's a bit squashed because the pickups were cranked low. Urg.

I don't know what it is, specifically, but it works fine. The fretless 'Bird has a bridge just like that, and I have no problems with it at all. I haven't even thought about it since setting up the bass.

Pretty sure that Kat had a warped bridge on hers as well and replaced it. There are some like that on eBay for reasonable prices. I believe the nuts on that series were brass (maybe even painted brass) and any of this model I have tested had nuts that did not seem plastic.

Yeah, I'll prolly hafta put some rolled up towels or something in there to keep the bass from moving around but it's a case! I'll post pics and comments.

The case held the bass in place pretty well but it never hurts to add a little cushion to the bottom ;)

Are we still talking basses here?:smug:<EDIT> Seriously, thanks for the info on this. I'd read that quality was lacking on this brand but for the price, it's worth a shot.

There for work a week, then on holiday (vacation). Looking for cool stuff to do, and always up to meet folk face to face.
Drive a couple of hours South to Newcastle on Friday or Saturday, no town I've ever been in party's harder. Do a pub crawl there and you'll have memories for a lifetime (assuming you can remember them).

Don't know what the bridge is, but I like it well enough.

My Pro-V has a brass nut (painted black). I think it is how they came.

I guess so... and cheesey wazn't the right word either, it was just not, to me, quite as quality-feeling as an Epi or Gibson. It also felt kinda huge! The fretboard was a great, flat, expansive terrain...

I had the same experience. I tried a Kellybird and although there was nothing wrong with it, it just didn't feel right to me. Not quite sure what it was, like the body was too thick.

On the other hand, the neck thru Jacksons feel great. My next FSO will likely be a Jackson neck thru.
