Guitars, basses, semantics
At the end of a day, any bass with a strap is a 'bass guitar' ...

Thank you! That's so nice of you to say that! Frankly if Tom knew I've been disseminating these past 'rough drafts' he'd kill me! (he's so the perfectionist!) Every time I see him I tell him how much I love Strumpet. The other cats wouldn't care - Mason (other guitarist) is a heavy 'noise' guy (attends Noise music festivals in Japan) and Frank the drummer (played with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum briefly) is a sweet guy but incredibly difficult to work with.
Never see them anymore, but I will be part of a jam session with Tom in a little over an hour!![]()

What wouldn't?always thought Purple would have sounded MUCH better with a T-Bird...

Yes. You most likely will have to roll off some highs, but I can get whatever sound I want by minor tone adjustments and where I finger(insert ahem)it.Can they sound like flats? My plan is use a Bird in the reggae band.

I was out and about, away from the computer(no smartphone); trying to catch up at 0100-ish. Prolly gonna miss a few. OK. The EB Cobalt flats on my 2 'Birds can give pretty much any sound I want to put out there. I don't mess with EQ much once we start the gig-and after I've EQ'ed to the room. We do mostly 'classic rock'(define that), so it's mostly where I pluck, either between the 'handrest' and the bridge cover or near the fretboard. The D'Addario Tapes I recently put on my Ibanez semi-hollow would likely make that bass ideal for reggae. BTW, wuttinahell is "dub"? I have used tapes on the 67 Bird but they tended to be a little too mellow.Ok, where's Gplaid?
Plaid - I know you're well beyond bass lesson territory but it just happened to be the first YouTube clip that popped up on a dub bass search. This is the sound I'd typically call dub especially as it relates to Reggae...I was out and about, away from the computer(no smartphone); trying to catch up at 0100-ish. Prolly gonna miss a few. OK. I like noise to a logical extreme. Used tastefully.

its a pretty basic instructional video but fairly good at explaining things and demonstrating the dub sound.
Could I pull that off on a Thunderbird with flats, yes, or tapes even easier. Just roll the tone knob way down, mute a bit and play up near the neck. In my experience, Cobalt flats are a fantastic sounding string on a TBird (possibly my favorite string on the Eppi VP Bird) but also brighter than most flats or tapes. So if playing Reggae on my bird I'd lean to a darker flat like Rotos or a black la Bella tape vs the Cobalt flats. That said, I'm sure with proper EQ and technique even Cobalt flats will do just fine, they just wouldn't be my personal first string choice for Reggae.
Side question if any one has any info that'd be awesome. If not it's all good too.
I've got a chance to either pick up a peavey TKO 65, mid 80's model. Or The Tko 115s sheffield 90's model. I'm familiar & have played the 115 s countless times with my band & it's nice & defined even for a 15" speaker. Also read its the series that replaced the 65 afterwards.
I guess i might be answering my own question of which i should get...Familiar territory rather than something just for the sake of it.
If only i'd have space in my room for both xD I think the 115 will be beneficial. The headphone input is a nice feature & since it's loud enough for a gig, it's easier to load in cars during shows.
Same here - being a three piece where I'm bass/lead vocals, with a versatile guitarist & grooving punk drummer, the TKO 115 carried it's own & shaped my tone pretty great. Clarity through a 15" is pretty rare. Hence why i'm probably gonna go with familiarity rather than new territory that might not work as well.
So i'm biting the bullet tomorrow - gonna pick up the tko 115 s. See if i can drastically talk the price down since they've had it for a years time. Also debating if down the line i semi convert it to isolate both the amp & speaker, or find a way to implement a on/off switch where it would engage or disengage the amplifier section from the speaker enabling me to use the speaker for a separate head connection.
Til then, familiar box with a nice sound is gonna be mine xD
A-hem, not just Calispoken like a true Californian..
Did you have to carve out the sides to be held in with the bolts?Close enough and less expensive.

Plus it's a drop in replacement for a three point...in my universe anyway.

An 810 or two, esp with an SVT, has long been a first choice for a lot of old-school reggae players, around here in New England anyway, and there's definitely a scene here. Also Peavey gear.An old friend of mine who has been playing roots/reggae for decades was at that gig the other night. His band has done shows with the Wailers. He told me Family Man likes to run multiple cabs with 10s - sometimes 2 x 810s + a 410!
Yes, took about 20 minutes with a hacksaw and a file...here's my How-To. It also details the benefits vs a 3 point:Did you have to carve out the sides to be held in with the bolts?
Great to see you, lady! I just got back myself after a long while. Glad to hear you're getting into a new project. I'm working on some shyte myself. We'll see. Musicians will be musicians.Quoi de neuf biches?
Still chuntering on about the same old stuff? I have been ~busy with band stuff.
Just pissed the old one off and getting into a new project -- hopefully the g*****d is less of a snugglemuffin. When something comes of it, may even put it up on the intertubes.
As you were.
