Thunderbird Club

I'm still surprised at what a great bass it is, if you do go looking I'd strongly recommend a II - I think George was every bit as convincing as I was..........
I'll have to do a little video of it sometime soon, it really is a monster.
I appreciate your insight, as always. And yes, George isn't helping either with his great comments.;) Maybe this should be the Thunderbird Enabler's Club!

Would love for you to do a Greco VP comparison video. Or any comparison video you do would be nice.
No, I really don't.
Yes, I really do. Who am I kidding? :)

Unfortunately, even if a Greco came up, there's no way I could justify a buy right now. Currently I own a number of basses and two houses!

Received some more photos of that Pelham Blue NR II on reverb. Does the underside of the pickup look right to any of you original owners? The screw holes on the underside look overly large, but honestly I haven't seen enough examples to determine that or not? They believe the frets are original. Currently trying to sell my Marshall JTM 45/100 to help finance an offer.

How are you going to fill two houses if not with basses? Seems to me that you pretty much have to keep buying.

I don’t have an original one, sorry. But I just spent several more minutes ogling the pics on Reverb (again). I would love to own that Tbird. Anyone in the market for a 62 year old kidney?

Always best to get the house(s) in order first, one will come your way at the right time.

Hey, that's a vintage kidney! I have a couple of those, dating back to 1957, all original with plenty of mojo. No case Queen here, plenty of honest player wear but still in very good working condition.

I like my Greco II so much that I'm actually considering buying a IV and yanking the bridge pup to install in my BaCH II. The Greco pups are absolutely magical. The rest of the bass is pretty much standard TBird stuff, but those pups are a sound to behold.

A Lull gets you pretty close.

I also have both the VP and the Greco and would second what our Queen has said. Everyone knows I'm a Huge VP fan and have claimed many times that the VP is the best new bass purchase out there under $1000. That said, you can buy one anytime you want for between $500 and $800 any day of the week. The Greco is much harder to find, so if it were an equal to the VP in sound, quality and price I'd go for it first.

Unfortunately the Greco isn't equal to the VP in price. They typically run about $1000. The good news is that it's equal to the VP in quality (the bridge has its pro and cons) but the Greco sound is to die for, even better than the phenomenally good VP. It does have a wider neck, like most bolt on birds, and is only a set neck vs a neck through like the VP.

Given the option to buy a used VP for $600 or a used Greco for $1200 I'd take the Greco. The closer the Greco gets to $1000 the quicker I'd take it. Then later down the road I'd look for a VP if I still wanted one, they're easy to find.
Wow that’s mint me like loads
