We really need a wiki.
Running was work. Biking is joy.
You got your mahogany on my walnut!you got peanut butter on my chocolate!![]()
I grew up in a family of seven in a lower middle class household. Mom always served breakfast, lunch and dinner and you ate everything on your plate. No seconds. No dessert. You drank milk with every meal. And you ate by the clock, hungry or not at 8:00, noon and 5:30. No snacks between meals, no skipped meals.Me, too. I had to teach myself it was ok not to clean my plate. Then I taught myself better portion control when putting food on the plate.

When I got married and moved away from home the inlaws got a kick out of asking if I was hungry. I would instinctively look at my watch to see if it was time to eat yet. I kept those habits for about 20 years after leaving home and had zero weight gain issues. In my mid 40's I started doing a lot of international business related travel and could no longer eat by the clock. So I ate when I was hungry or when others ate. And my meal portion sizes quickly became equivalent to whatever others were eating. Pounds started to pack on.
Now that I'm retired and not traveling nearly as much I'm trying to get back to eating by the clock and eating smaller portions. When I stick to it I can easily drop 5 pounds in a week. The key is sticking to it.
My wife is South African and grew up eating cheese and jam (strawberry) sandwiches, which she loves and I can’t get my head around. I’m sweet OR savoury, the concept of them together between slices of bread doesn’t compute.Scotch and Fig Newtons are a fantastic non-obvious combination.
As an artist I find the "pink thing" very interesting. Even in the (road) cycling world, owning/riding/racing a pink bike was making a statement at one time. Having a pink (something/anything) is more common now and hardly anyone batts an eye seeing something pink. It shows you the power of colour. Think Prince and the one colour that is tied to his legacy. French artist Yves Kline was know for his "International Kline Blue" - wouldn't it be great to be remembered with a colour. FTR, "International Colours" denotes an international standard for colour mixed to specific pigmentation and density. So, to have a colour on their list is huge. I helped curate an art show/exhibit by a European artist who specified a wall be painted in a specific International Colour, which luckily here in SF I had a known paint store that could mix that. Standards are very useful when you are talking international.
My Dad was known to eat jam and cheese sandwiches on occasion... which I thought odd but there you go.My wife is South African and grew up eating cheese and jam (strawberry) sandwiches, which she loves and I can’t get my head around. She did turn me on to bacon and banana sandwiches though which I had a similar reaction to at first but loved it when I tried it!
Beer and carrots (no dip) is surprisingly satisfying. As is dark chocolate and beer.
This thread IS the wiki. Just that it isn't very well organized or indexed. We really need a wiki.
Running is slow and hard on your body - as long as you keep the rubber-side-down, cycling is way better.![]()
<snip> I re-learned last year after having my left hip replaced (end of January 2020 - first major surgery) <snip> After the other hip was replacement in June (crazy year) <snip>
The first time I had marmite I nearly gagged on it. Super salty kinda smokey flavor IIRC. I spread several large dollops on toast which was apparently the wrong way to serve it.
Once done right it's not a bad thing, actually kinda good but you have to do it right to even tolerate it. It seems the proper way to eat it is to spread butter on the toast first then swipe an incredibly small amount of marmite (about 1/4 as much marmite as you use to butter your toast, maybe even less). I still prefer jam but marmite will do in a pinch.
Serve with a beaker (mug) of hot Builders Tea with cream and sugar for the win.
Yes, it’s very salty and yeasty and is a by product of the beer making process. It’s made in Burton-upon-Trent here in the UK and if you’ve ever been there the smell of Marmite hangs in the air!
Marmite typically goes on toast, there’s another yeast paste, Bovril, which is (was?) more typically turned into a drink.
Peanut butter on a slightly tart apple is also real good.
I went to physical therapy to see about healing tendons in my shoulder that have been beaten to the likes of old frayed clothesline... now I've been working with big rubber bands to strengthen those little muscle groups in your back associated with shoulder blades. *AND* pushups, which I hate almost as much as pullups! Which are coming...I'm to the point that I almost, almost - like working out, I still have to mentally kick my butt into doing it, but after not working out at all for at least 40 years I did expect this to be a bit of a battle, as is learning how to eat like an adult.
I'd love to have a waistline half as sexy as this...............

Yeah, it's good too feel good, right?? Of course we'll need to see a new dress pic!Exercise won't ever be fun the learning a new song on the bass is for me, but it's become part of my weekly routine and I do feel and look much better than I did, say two years ago.
Thanks! From the later '70s into the '80s - multi-lam construction became common. Neck-thru construction was already there - but the advent of "natural" finishes and use of more exotic woods lead to showcasing that 'look'. The "hippy sandwich" was born.
I have often wondered if that wouldn't be a good look, with a few modifications for play-ability. Can't wait to see it. The Ghia can wait! We're talking about a new and revolutionary bass design here!I haven’t built a bass from scratch for a long time, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be an upside down Ric shape using Thunderbird construction, including the thinner wings. After I get the Ghia on the road![]()
