Thunderbird Club

Red Greco Bird in Hawaii for a good price:

GRECO TB-70 RD BASS 1988 Red MIJ fujigen | eBay

sunnavabatch!

Outstanding price on that Greco especially considering shipping. If I didn’t already have two of them I’d be all over it.
Somebody is gonna have a nice Christmas.

shhhh, I’m playing the good husband card as we speak….

Glad someone here went for it!

I blame @Nocturnal ….

Tokai and Greco instruments have always been rarities around me. I have held 2 Tokai’s in my life and never a Greco.

I was super scared it would be gone much sooner, not sure why it didn’t, was finally able to take the plunge a few minutes ago…. Still should be here before Christmas, seller has good ratings with mention of secure packaging…

Can anyone in the club provide feedback on the fretboard "inlay" decals sold on eBay? I was thinking about adding the abalone type to my SpectorBird but don't want to if they are trash. Any experiences good or bad?

I have used the ones from Jockomo. I ordered one set directly from him in Japan (because it is possible to ship to Canada) and the other set I got through Amazon.
The first set lasted 3-4 years with a lot of playing on my J shaped object before they started getting a little worn looking. They left a shadow where the surrounding rosewood is lighter, so I made another set with Cricut holo vinyl. It seems to be similar material and I could do custom shapes, but so far I’ve only made rectangles.
I haven’t found any abalone-ish material, but I haven’t looked very hard either.
A couple of other things to be aware of:
The outline of dot inlays does show through if you look carefully.
Check that the 12th fret sticker will cover your dots. Sometimes the dots are spaced too far apart.

I haven’t tried decals on the fretboard but most of my instruments sport hello Kitty stickers and the vinyl they use for that is pretty sturdy.

I would only worry about adhesion if the board was recently oiled.

ya ain’t sposed da be diggin the strings into the board so they should last.

Liked that one it was a tad more edgy than the Brady Bunch.

Kara, as far as I’m concerned it’s Thunderbird Thursday anytime you wanna flash that red beauty on the screen.

Musta been in the same house as me. Add Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Mission Impossible with a touch of Gillian’s Island, Hogans Hero’s, F-Troop, Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres to round out the day.

Second hand info only - everyone I’ve asked about the stickers has been very pleased with them. Go on easy, stay on and come off easy if you want to remove them. They apparently don’t wear out because ideally your strings never actually touch them. About the only remotely negative comment I’ve heard is that they’re kind of a 3 foot thing. From 3 feet away they look like real inlays close up you can tell it’s a sticker because of the raised surface. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone chime in on how they hold up to a good fretboard oiling.

yep

My favorites! Still enjoy some of them when I just want my mind to relax from thinking. Sounds goofy, and my be, but when I don't feel good, at times I like watching some the old Buggs Bunny and Road Runner, cartoons. I was talking with a friend my age at church once who had been ill and he said the same thing. I laughed and said I don't feel so bad for doing the same thing. He's an engineer and was in charge of all of UPS's data and electronic security, so I felt in good company and didn't feel so bad.

But when I feel good, I play these....

Off topic - just checking in to see if you and the family are ok. Lots of tornadoes blowing through your neck of the woods today.
Yes, thanks for asking. The damage was more South and West of us, maybe 50 miles. We did have crazy high winds very early in the morning. Only one other time when we have some kind of freak wind storm do I recall such strong and sustained winds. Irv asked this morning and I was telling him we are mostly surrounded by woods and there is a huge Sycamore that is concerning that is on the bank of a creek. If it ever goes, it will head toward the house and our bedroom, right where our headboard is located. If it falls there will be some real damage to the house and likely our heads. That said, with all that wind, I thought for sure I've find something down or damaged when the Sun came up.

Ideal technique and what actually happens are two different things. I get excited, dig in and bend sometimes, so there was some wear on the stickers after a few years.

That's great, but can't read the address....

Talking about old solid state amps, here's what I use:

And since I got the second L2 about a month ago I usually use those only. The L4 is a bit heavier, not really louder and doesn't sound as sweet as the L2 (might be psychoacoustics, I admit).
Great amps for clean and overdriven sound. The middle frequence pot is the magic ingredient in those. I usually take both with me to gigs. One as a spare 'though I haven't needed it yet. Yesterday it saved the guitarists ass as his Marshall died.
Plus two amps looks always cool, even with a one cab.

My L5 was the one SS guitar amp that I really liked. I wish I hadn't needed to sell it.
