In my worthless opinion, you don't need tubes if you have one of those. Power. Tone. No maintenance. And Tone. Did I say tone yet? And the suckers won't die. One of the best bass heads ever IMO.

I just scored a Fender Bassman 300 Pro. I had an SVT years ago, but never got the experience with it that I'm hearing about here.
I'm back to tubes after 25+years.

Also 6146B's are transmitter tubes, they weren't made to be run constantly pedal to the medal. I've read that it was really Keith Richards sustained power chords that made them rethink the power tubes. I bought it on ebay a few years ago and drove all the way to Ohio and back from Mass in one day to pick it up. Never again.

damn! that’s a haul…..from clam chowder to corn chowder lol…yep definitely, 6146 was a transmitter tube where the 6550 was a servo (low freq amplifier) tube that believe it or not, was developed by GE in conjunction with Fender using the 400 PS Bass amp as a test platform…
in truth, I regret having modified mine as i believed they (6146 tubes) were to blame for the well known but not well understood reliability issue which actually worked out to be a phase inverter design issue. that said, Ampeg has always been known for strange, clearly procurement driven tube selection….

speaking of SVTs and Sunns……
that folded horn Ampeg cab sounds heavenly with the Coliseum Bass…..made us have to replace a glass pane in one of the sound booths some years back….no joke..

Not so great for a stage amp/monitor. Very good if you want to punish whomever is leaning against the back wall of the room. Heh.

There's no preamp outputs on those though. The Bassman preamp is actually better than the Showman preamp, it's got a mid scoop on it like the ultra lo on an Ampeg but at 50 watts it didn't have enough power.

I just found a picture of them, the bassman's a '67 too. Dual showman cabs are hard to find, I got rid of my original Dual Showman years ago but '67 heads are common
