No resistance - to emphasize ... if the bass is designed to balance well to begin with, any strap will work with it. I use wide "grippy" suede-backed leather straps for T-birds. That and looping the strap on top of the upper lower bout. No issues what-so-ever after doing this.

This is my "fix" for a straight-forward strap hook-up on a T-bird shaped object. (as in, no need to loop the lower-upper bout) 12th fret strap-peg location works every time.

In fact one of my favorite hybrids has a SS preamp with tube power section vs the more typical tube preamp with SS power section. I haven’t a clue how things work behind the scenes but I do know a good sound when I hear it, and that’s all I really focus on, no tube purest mindset for this hack. If a tube pedal or a SS pedal on the front end makes things sound better I’m all for it. :thumbsup:

precisely my point… I get an amp that works for me right off the bat and dial it in….If it needs any type of band aid, it ain’t the amp for me…

from what I read on that KT-120 tube and that mod…you should have headroom for days….:thumbsup:

Yeah, you have to recall that "driven to distortion" in most tube amps means the power stage is driven to distortion. And that inevitably means loud, unless you are using something like a PowerBrake with it.

yeah, totally with you….i can totally appreciate someone’s rig and what they did to get there but don’t try to convince me that sweet tone is coming from that misused piece of expensive kit…
my ex colleagues at UA are doing some pretty cool bass tone stuff with these…

Funny thing is, when I was playing guitar I threw a number of pedals in front of the amp. But on bass, the only thing in my signal chain after the bass is maybe a tuner. Just never really took to pedals with bass.

I just purchased a Chase Tone Secret Preamp. They're not too pricey, and based on the Echoplex preamp. People seem to rate them very highly, I'll definitely be testing it out with my DR103.

Listen to Steely Dan's "Reelin' in the years" those guitar solos were recorded through an SVT amp with 8X10 cab, which seeing the overdrive was probably on "Search-for-cover" volume levels.
