Here are my 2 modified Squiers.

The black Bronco has a Bartolini 8CBP pickup and a custon (by me) black 3 ply pickguard. It also has a Musicmaster bridge.

The vintage white one is an Affinity P-Bass body with a short scale SX neck. I routed out the neck pocet to bring the neck closer to the bridge and moved the Gotoh 201 bridge closer to the neck. I also moved the Bill Lawrence P-46 pickup to where it should be in proportion to the shorter scale. Paint job is mine. Valspar enamel (Sweet Almond or something like that) and the pickguard is my custom job as well.

meet thumper.
thumper began it's life as a '89 made in korea squire 2. i picked it up at a garage sale for $90 with a hard case. the neck on this thing is amazingly comfortable and plays like a BIG stick of butter. i've had it on several different projects and finally decided to put it back where it belongs. even with the plywood body and stock pickup, this thing is a tone monster. i threw together some parts i had lying around and came up with this. i added a pickguard, badass bridge, gfs hot wound in the neck, and moved the stock p/u to the bridge. there is also a series/parallel push/pull on the tone pot. 2 split p's in series? oh yeah, it's pretty good.

does this earn me a number?

Oh man Squashed, thats the bass i want! I am gasing for a classic 60s jazz bass, but i dont wanna drop 500$ i was thinking it would be cheaper if i bought a squier affinity jazz body and swapped everything out (i already have a bridge and control plate from a highway One).

I could save money and get a really good neck here or on ebay, but the pickguard and control plate (and now even pickup cavities) have me worried it will be more work then screwing and unscrewing...

Might be better to go MIM body then ?

I've seen lots of people on this thread and others say the Squiers are much better value than the MIMs. I've changed out the wiring and a lot of cosmetic things on my Affinity, but the neck, body, and pups are still original. I love it. I would like full size tuning keys, but that's the only thing on my only wishlist right now.

Also, have you looked into this CV Jazz: http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend...ic-Vibe-Jazz-Bass-60s-Bass-Guitar-?sku=519578

IMO, this one needs no modifications whatsoever.

Quick question to the guys on this club, or anyone really.
If i buy a Squier Affinity Jazz body, can I put a fender Tort guard on it and a fender control plate?

Would all the screw holes line up ?

I have an '07 Affinity Jazz V with a 'Mexican 5 string' pickguard from here...

it fit perfectly, every hole lined up just right. My control plate is from the Audere preamp, so I can't comment on the fender plate. I believe the Audere is standard fender size though.

(enter coupon code TQWD at checkout for $10 off your order!!! it's supposed to be 10%, but for some reason they took $10 off my order for a pickguard. Invalid Link Removed ..this is the page that explains the discount, it's towards the bottom)

So far my "to-do" list includes straplocks, black pg screws, black control cavity plate and knobs, maybe a thumbrest, and a set of strings suitable for BEAD tuning. And a bit of filing on the nut, no doubt.
I haven't earned my number, I'll check in when I've done something worth reporting.
Got the black control cavity plate, screws and knobs on. But that stuff is mere cosmetics, easy to do. Not deserving of a number. Picked up a Friday gig, so I'll be trying her out one day sooner than I thought! :bassist:
Had the pickguard off, and seeing all that lovely butterscotch-colored wood under there was awesome!

The vintage white one is an Affinity P-Bass body with a short scale SX neck. I routed out the neck pocet to bring the neck closer to the bridge and moved the Gotoh 201 bridge closer to the neck. I like it! What's the resulting scale length of that bass? 32" or 30"?

Doragon, I've seen yours before...

LOVE that pickguard/knob/color combo!
You've probably seen this one as well:

CV 50's Precision
3-ply parchment pickguard
SD QP pickup
New pots, cap and wiring
"Football" jack plate
Jaguar knobs
Fender flatwounds
and last but not least- copper tape shielding:

It's not really "tricked out" in a flashy sort of way. More subtle, but it does get the job done.
I'm not too cool to accept a number.;)

Interesting comment I read earlier in this thread about there being no great difference between the stock pickup and the SDQP. I swear mine sounds better than before the swap. Maybe the combination of new pots, cap and pickup makes the difference, or maybe my ears are trying to justify the cash I spent on the upgrades?:D

I put a Lindy Fralin '51 Precision pickup in mine and it sounds WAY better than the original pickup.
