You guys are KILLING me! I love hot rodded Squiers. I have played some that rival MIAs in playability and finish. The name on the headstock doesn't mean a thing when you're sweating, eyes closed, music moving through you like an LSD trip. I will say this though, I've started removing the headstock logos and replacing them with F***** logos, just for laughs.

And a tip for the modders! If you want to darken your rosewood fretboard, go over to Stu-Mac.com and buy a bottle of [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] If you're looking for that dark, almost ebony look (light rosewood is a dealbreaker for me), this stuff is unbeatable! Clean your board with some naptha and a toothbrush, because this dye won't penetrate through sweat/grime, and you'll have a blotchy looking board. Mask off your fretboard with GOOD tape, cuz this stuff will bleed through dollar store masking tape! Apply sparingly, and then wipe off carefully with a clean, dry cloth.

Here's a shot of my old MIK Squier. Unfortunately, no longer in my possession :( This is after the fretboard was dyed, it was really light and streaky before.

I have done fretboard touch ups, too. Nothing worse than an otherwise good looking bass with a dried out looking fretboard.

I'd also add: anyone using the dye: you might as well then seal it with some minwax wipe on. It will fill the pores and make the wood feel much smoother. I have done that to several basses with crap-rosewood fretboards. Makes a difference.

Good news is that: on at least some of the VM Squiers, the quality of the rosewood is very high. My fretboard looks great and feels like butter.

Nice looking VM J, Ryan.

I no longer have my Squier J5, but I have an Indo Bronco now.

All I've done so far to the Bronco is change the pickup to a cream GFS Lil Killer Vintage (6k) and the knobs are black jazz (vol/tone). Strung wtih shortie Chromes and it sounds killer.

Thinking about a refin in orange or Surf Green if I have the extra cash. Good for now though. Black/maple, no problem.
