To the left of it is also a red Foundation for $349 w/o a truss rod cover. The one we are talking about is $299 to the right bottom row.
Oh, the link was showing only one bass. I see them both on the main Peavey bass page. I also saw a nice TL-5 with Super Ferrites. Man, gotta stay away!

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I can see that I'll likely be an addict. Peavey's bang/buck ratio will make my compulsory stereo mods much easier (with my EBMM StingRay, I almost got cold feet because of the fear of loosing resale value.)Welcome fellow Peavey Player (NOT to be mistaken with our Peavey Player™)
Prepare to be addicted ! There are SOOoo many GOOD USA Made Peavey basses. The Gbass is just one of a million. The Gbass neck is the same neck they use on the USA Millennium, so now you know how that feels. Both are 35" scale. When you try a USA made CIRRUS, your life will never be the same.
Cirrus is definitely on my radar, but I've aquired 4 new basses in the last month (one was a trade though,) so I should probably cool it for a bit.
Something looks funky about the neckplate too. It looks to me that the screws on top look like they are going through tabs? It also looks like there is a bigger chrome looking screw behind the plate?

Yeah, brother Mudd, the G bass is very nice but once you climb down the rabbit hole a little, you will see that there are SO many Peavey bass necks that just BLOW AWAY most others in feel. My RJIV is my #1 go to for the last few months, or so. It is PERFECTION. Neck feel, preamp dipswitch possibilities, ease of use, weight, overall feel, etc. Outplays most, if all $2k + basses I've played.

I do know that the Super Ferrite loaded Foundations, Dyna Basses and Dyna Bass 5ers all have pickups in the exact same place-at 28 & 32" from the nut.

Bridge pickup on both is the same, 32" 2/16ths from nut to centre .
1/2" between the neck pickups.
On the 5'er it measures 29" from nut to centre. 4 string measures 28" 1/2.

I'm using that pic to help relieve the GAS I'm experiencing.
The Black Foundation 5 arrived yesterday. GC site had described the bass as in "Great" condition. Their definition of great is that it functions perfectly and may have minor surface scratches.
Well, it was actually in good condition. It had numerous chips in the finish and some was pretty bad around the control knobs. I touched up the chips with black paint, cleaned and waxed the bass, installed some of the older Peavey knobs that have a skirt that covers the finish damage where the original knobs were. I reinstalled the strings that it came with because they are D'Adarrio XL's. They are heavier than I typically use but are fresh so I decided to use them. I did a complete set up on the bass and am rewarded with a great looking/playing Peavey 5 that just sounds terrific.
My total cost was $347. That is not as cheap as these basses were going for a few years ago but it is a really good value IMO.
I need to stop buying basses and get a better camera. This one sucks.

It's ok to buy a new camera, but NOT with bass money!
There's one on Reverb for $1300 but is missing the cable and midi module. So I want to know if the price is good? Are the cable and midi module still available to buy somewhere? Is there anything else needed to use it? How does it sound? Etc.?
That's the best looking Foundation5 I think I've ever seen. The knobs are made for it.

I agree! That matching headstock makes ALL the difference, to me anyway, and those skirted knobs look awesome! Congrats @Chuck M !
That is an awful lot of money for old tech missing 2 quite important components.
Both the MIDI splitter box and MIDI base module have been out of production for decades , sadly same story for the cable .
Good news is you can make up your own cable as Neutrik still make the socket ; OSC8F $12 to $15 each.
As for the MIDI splitter box ; I seem to recall somebody on here talking about how they would build one. I never heard if they actually got around to it.
That leaves the MIDI base module , here you would be much better off using another sound module.
Nickel strings are a must.

I'll be brutally honest , with the stock MIDI unit it sounds extremely dated.
No surprise there as it is very old tech . My first experience of the MIDI bass was late 89/ early 90 when Steve had Wal using the system. The world of bass synth has come a long way since then.
If somebody asked me for my opinion on buying a MIDI bass ; I would say " don't ! ".
As a piece of history they are fine , as musical instruments ; there are far better products available. The Roland GK-3B is plug and play for just $200 .
