Sorry for the rudimentary question, but whats the general consensus on the B-ninety Active? I'm remote right now, but my son found one in a Pawn shop for $150 and called me. It seems to be in good cosmetic shape and the neck seems straight. He knows that I look for Dyna's all the time, bud now I'm curious about the B-90. Any help woud be greatly appreciated.

I have the passive version and it's a very good meat-and-potatoes bass.. Nothing fancy but it's a solid rocker. I'd say go for it. I doubt you'd have trouble getting your money back if you decided to sell it later.

Hell, I might take it off your hands! I've been wanting to try an active version. :smug:

Thanks for the info on the B-90. It sounds pretty similar to the Forum P/J (which has the slimmest of any neck of my US Peaveys), except that this B-90 is active. Apparently, this bass also has a HSC in great shape as well. Too good of a deal to pass up, even sight unseen.

I went and had a look at the B-90 when I got back into town yesterday.
There is something dorky about it - the action is at least an inch high (at the end of the fretboard), even though the saddles are as low as they'll go and the nut looks to be slotted correctly. The neck has only a slight bit of relief and doesn't seem to be twisted, however, something doesn't seem right with it.

It may just be a micro-tilt adjustment or perhaps someone put a shim (a big one) in the pocket (I'm not sure how much you actually can adjust using the micro-tilt screw), but I didn't pick it up.

I may go back and get it, but it wasn't anything I'm dying to get my hands on (and I have enough projects at this time - my Forum's pickups continue to baffle me - too bad, as it's the best neck of anything I've ever played).

Still looking for the right Dyna to come along, too.

The only way I could see that happening is if either the micro-tilt is set totally wrong, or the back of the neck (in the pocket) or the bottom of the neck pocket itself was shaved down, or if somebody swapped necks around and the neck that's on there is not the neck that is supposed to be on there.

Putting a shim in the neck pocket would lower the action, not raise it.

Yes, you're correct about the shim. My bad.
I may take a picture of it (or just go pick it up). Maybe some close investigation would get it sorted.

Just a quick heads-up for anyone interested- Guitar Center in Akron, OH has a natural Palaedium for what I would consider a good price. I'm tempted to snag it, but need another bass like I need a hole in the head. If it were a 5'r (if they existed) it'd be mine. :smug:

Bout 1/3 of the mills I receive are shimmed wrong - you can shim to raise action - there are some common chucklehead ways of doing this

I should start a photo gallery of folks that would make Euclid cringe.

That's a VERY fair price IMO. Had I not just bought another TL-Five I'd snag it and perhaps convert it to a fretless! If it's still there in a couple of weeks I may indeed get it.
