Was there any good punk rock?

Obvious Troll is Obvious, but I'll bite. I've been lurking for awhile picking up a lot of great information on gear here, but this flimsy non question hate-bait spurred me to create a profile. Instead of engaging, if you are truly serious I'd like to pose a question to you about something I barely understand and don't really like at face value: Why should anyone care about Amy Grant? Was she ever any good? Did she bring any cultural value to the world through her Christian-Pop crossover singles? My gut answer is no, but I don't have the knowledge or insight to say definitively. This may come off as snotty and irreverent, and it is meant to be somewhat, but I am truly curious if you could enlightnen me.

Is Punk as a musical art-form valuable? I think when viewed from any academic perspective, i.e. art history, sociology, history, psychology, or political science, there is no doubt it has had a significant impact on our culture. It is a form of folk music, or music of the common people. It is in the same category as blues, rap, mountain music, and black spirituals. Whether is it valuable to you is up to you to decide.

Just because someone might reminisce about the past does not automatically mean they are unhappy in the present; that is a sloppy syllogism.

Value is always subjective. Just because it doesn’t have value to you doesn’t mean anything absolute at all. Your tastes are not somehow more correct than anyone else’s.

I have to say you do not seem very happy. Your post is, at best, joyless cynicism. At worst it is blatant trolling.

Ironically that is what I used to think about people like myself, before my opinions on this changed. But I couldn't have been more wrong.

The thing that sparked this thread was hearing something about GG Allin somewhere. Some kind of praise. I just felt so sad to know that there are people who find any value in that. How sad their lives must be.

I'm trying to say that there is a better way. And I get called a troll for this.

The thing that sparked this thread was hearing something about GG Allin somewhere. Some kind of praise. I just felt so sad to know that there are people who find any value in that. How sad their lives must be.

Never paid much attention to it when it was new and I was young as I was a stalwart prog rocker but I sure learned to love it later. The Damned and Killing Joke are two of the greatest bands of all time, imo.

Zac Volta, the frontman in this video, currently plays bass in Krum Bums.

We can only go by what you said in your first few posts, which seemed to address the whole of punk music and did not mention GG Allin. To do otherwise would be making unwarranted assumptions.

Was there any good punk rock? Surely. Just because I don't dig a specific genre doesn't mean that there isn't an inherent value to it musically. I am not a fan of a number of musical genres, but it doesn't stop me from appreciating them, especially when performing that music.
