What is an iconic guitar solo that should be played note for note?

I agree. Unless you are in some sort of tribute act.
This is the most iconic guitar solo of all time. And most guitarists murder it.
Beatles. "Nowhere Man" or "Hard day's Night."
To me there is a difference between covering a tune with your own completely different take on it, new arrangement, different vibe. Or, not playing all the signature parts because you're too lazy to learn them, or not skilled enough to play them.
To me cover the tune NFN, or totally change it up, don't half-ass it.

I read Neil Young sarcastically bragging that the solo was only one note, but played on two strings.
Mick Taylor's solo in "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'".
If it is "iconic", it means it has been done a trizillion times. In my opinion: Either don't do it at all (because you have to deliver a world class performance or everyone thinks you stink, no middle ground with these kinds of songs) or give it your own spin, make it interesting again.

I've always loved the descending passage Elliot Randall plays at the end first chorus going into the second verse. The way he resolves it on the root of the chord at 1:16 is just great.
