Ya, those guys rock! They been playing around here for near 30 yearsCarrots are second in line to f-holes as the most important things ever.
It's TB protocol to always offer carrots as an option in any poll, at least if it's a poll about one's preferences or what's "best" or "better" for anything.
For instance: what kind of bass do you like best? 1) J bass. 2) P bass 3) stingray 4) carrots
Or: What color pickguard should I put on my bass? 1) tort 2) tort 3) tort 4) tort 5) carrot tort.
Like that.

Back in the day, when TB was... a few months younger, we didn't have polls. They're still considered to be those "new fangled things". The problem was (is) that when people had access to this tool, they started using it too much. Every thread had a poll, and they were all useless. In his own inimitable fashion, John Turner edited all the polls to have an option called "carrots", which had nothing to do with anything, except it would usually win. It was his way of saying "Hey, polls are stupid, and to show it, I will introduce a vegetable option that will display how silly these wacky polls are."
Some people were annoyed that a mod edited their poll, but now many have started putting carrots in by themselves- I'm not sure if John does it anymore. People also seem to want to use it to say "That was stupid" or "This is a dumb topic and deserves a dumb answer." or "Everyone seems to be saying 'carrots' and I desperately want to be accepted in this odd, odd culture, so I, too, will say carrots."

back when folks first got the ability to post polls, many stupid polls showed up in OT, and instead of closing them down, i started adding the option "carrots", or some carrot related option, such as carrot souffle, in an attempt to convey the ridiculous nature of the poll in question.
it just stuck around, and now you know...the rest of the story.
I can't take it any longer. I understand 'apples and oranges' but what does a reference to 'Carrots' on talkbass stand for.
Its been years and I haven't figured it out.
I did, actually! I only steam mine. Rarely eat them raw.
