What would your last ever bass purchase be?

There's a few I'd like to have, but honestly with my 2 STRs I don't really need another bass. I am bizarrely happy with my 6 string and almost completely gas free for the first time in a good 15 years. I hope I'm not coming down with something! lol

Weird to say, but I may already be there unless something weird happens. Last 3 have been Sadowsky's (WL 4, P/J 5, Modern 5), and I think I could sell all my others and just keep these 3 (with the possible exception of my Ric). My desire for anything else is fading, and I may end up doing a big sell-off someday.

Some people can't afford botique basses, some people can't afford vintage basses, some people can only afford something that costs under $500...is there something wrong with someone buying a Squier or an Epiphone or a Sterling.
Anyway, unless I hit the lottery, I won't be buying anything over $1,000, so it just might be one of these.

PS. @Joebone , did I ever mention that that was my nickname throughout my teen years, and I HATED it? I weighed about 120 lbs. and, the last letters of my last name are zone, so it got tacked instead of that, and then shortened to just Joe Bone, or Joe Bones.

So, many years ago, on the road with Randi Crawford, the sax player is teased by one of his bandmates over his eating habits - "You're gonna be boney, James…" Thus the birth of Boney James….or at least that's the story his Dad told me.

I suppose if I bought a Fodera Anthony Jackson Presentation II that would be the last bass I ever purchase

...because my wife would kill me.

Okay, I just noticed StratHater beat me to the joke :)

...though truth be told I could swing a new Ric and the missus probably wouldn't even notice. Whereas a $36,000 Fodera would definitely get noticed!

since you say you like soundgear and we're daydreaming here, instead of the SR505, how about the SR1805? i've played it, and it sounds really amazing. i like the barts in my SR500, but the SR1805e really sings, and between the preamp and the nordy big singles, you can dial in a really wide variety of tones.

As I've said to my wife many times, my gas will never fade. However, since I do love my current bass (jaguar), the only one I would want to add is a mustang bass. Since I would want to make this a "special" purchase, I would make it a custom shop deal. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but if I'm going to buy my "last bass" I'm going to make it count.

I don't have any interest in owning more than 2-3 basses really. I have two now plus one project bass. I may offload one of those. They are all El Cheapos that I've modded to be solid, reliable players that feel good, play and sound great and have components of my choosing.

If I came into "now I can buy whatever I want" money, I can't say I wouldn't have more, although I like to keep my possessions to a minimum.

There are, however, always basses on my GAS list. Realistically, the only thing I really feel the pull to own is a passive fretless 4 string, but here are some that, money and space being no object, I'd like to own (some of them I have owned in the past) :

Pre-CBS Fender P
Peavey T-40
Gibson Non-Reverse T-bird
Gibson Ripper
Ovation Magnum (passive)
Guild B-301
Ric 4001 or 4003
Some kind of 8 string
Some kind of hollowbody or semi-hollow to string with flats (a nice Gretsch would be cool)

...but it's hard to say that I'll ever own any of the above. I get fixated on a new instrument now and then, but since I rarely have any leisure cash, the GAS usually passes.

Need more requirements than that, what's the budget, and are custom builds allowed?

Considering the basses I already have, and a budget of $1000 and under, I would choose a Sire V7.

Considering the basses I already have, unlimited budget, and mass produced basses only, I would choose a USA made Stingray.


Considering the basses I already have, unlimited budget, and any bass, I would hire someone to build me a light weight T-40 'copy' with added features such as a slimmer neck, and bridge that has both string through body and standard option.

I highly recommend the fretless. So fun.

The constraints are on you, not me.:) I simply said what would be your last bass? I also said what I would buy if money weren't an issue.

From everything I hear, a V7 would be a great final bass if you truly want performance, not name or status.
