Did I miss the list? Where is it posted? You didn't put Ashton Barrett on your list but he is probably the most well known reggae bassist in history and played on almost every major album of that genre.
Guess he's just filed under 'etc...'

Enlighten me, what would I have heard Sklar on? Maybe he's a session bassist, which mean everyone has heard him but nobody knows his name. Maybe I liked his playing and read the album jacket which listed the band's bassist and not the studio bassist.

Are there any other names I need to memorize before I play my bass. Would hate to not know a name that would definitely improve my playing.

You would think a reggae listening dude with 420 in his name would have a bit more laid back attitude, but I guess not.

Imo (I know I'm all out of line here), is that some people here seem to think their opinion should be held by all or OMG!

Can I be condescending to someone after 2 weeks? Maybe 3, or maybe 6 years?

Seriously your reaction to someone not knowing who Sklar is, imo was a tad bit condescending, just like the post I saw in the Namm thread (not sure who posted it on't really care).

I don't understand it but it happens.

You need to do a little Lady Gaga research. That woman is incredibly talented, incredibly smart, and deserves all the success she's earned, IMO.

Dee Dee Ramone earned it with decades of touring & making albums with the Ramones. Wentz has been on the scene a hot minute.

I tend to think of "signature" basses as something that is put out because it is iconic, or a marketing scheme. I have a soft spot for the Ramones, but Dee Dee could have played any P bass and it would have sounded the same. I also don't think his playing was remembered for much beyond being fairly tight. That's why I think it is sort of funny that they did it, but in a good way. It made me laugh. It could be seen as sad too, since Fender was just cashing in on the poor man's death.

i mean don't get me wrong he's not the most technically proficient bass player in the world, but I can think of players FAR worse than him (for example: Sid Viscious and I've heard Robert Trujillo is pretty bad too). The man has an awesome stage presence and personality! Not to mention he really knows how to write songs lyrics!

I'm sure this has been said, but Robert Trujillo?? Infectious Grooves? Suicidal Tendencies? You heard he was terrible? Wow..

I never questioned her talent or intelligence..or success.

That's usually only placed in the context of old Metallica vs new Metallica and in reality has no bearing on Trujillos abilities. He is capable of much more than the fat check he settled for by joining new Metallica and in all honesty, could pull off Cliffs licks and more, while doing a spider dance with dual pony tails.

Metallica have a habit of employing the best bass players they can find and then totally mixing them out of their music, they did it with Burton,Newsted and Trujillo ,is a real waste of his skill

The OP, @Cole Louis Allar commented on Trujillo based on what he had heard from others, not first had experience. So can we please stop assuming he was slagging Trujillo, he wasn't.

Calm down my friend, maybe you didn't see my smiley or my thanking you for mentioning my favorite bass player.

I don't correct spelling but it's a mark of respect to spell someone's name correctly, and I only mentioned it because you made such a big deal of giving him credit. Why so angry?

And if you really want to get pedantic, etc. doesn't mean lesser but more of the same.

Well the former Mike and Bob show and their interns in Virginia Beach where im from used to say (on and off the radio) that Wentz and Jared Leto from 30 sec to Mars were both COLOSSAL d-bags every time they encountered them. Maybe people just dont like him for a reason of personality more so than his music. I heard him on that radio show and he was a jerk to everyone and was being annoying on purpose. Just a thought

I met Jared Leto a few years ago & he was intense but a really nice guy, for what it's worth

I felt similar about the new Hendrix Strats coming out of Mexico. Fender found a great way to sell a Mexican Fender for nearly double what they normally cost.
