What's *your* favorite Peavey amp??

yes, these things are a tank! have one slightly different I got for Christmas in 1990 and still use it.
always been a fan of Peavey gear, built strong and inexpensive.
recently bought an IPR2 2000 used for $200 to lighten the load of my Ampeg B4R.

Just yesterday I got my TNT150 (manufactured 1988-1991) back from a tech. Bought it some years ago from a friend for 200€. It was pretty beat up cosmetically and had some slight hum which didn't get louder with volume so I still used it like that for some years but just recently it started failing on me (had to switch from hi gain input to power amp in in the middle of a gig). So I decided it was time to take it to a tech and be good for another 25 years. There was lots of loose soldering points (mind years of vibration) and a loose cap and some bridging that somebody had done on the power supply, which was the cause of the humming. I love this amp as it's a Mark III (which I loved 25 years back) in a combo. IME and after trying lots of combos the only ever to come close to this in terms of sound shaping capabilities and loudness is the old EBS Gorm line. Not light at all but really loud and low. Besides I have 2 more combos, a TKO80 which I'm selling soon and a TKO75 (same amp but lighter box) which I use at home and occasionally for bars gigs. All of them are fitted with switchable piezo tweeters and metal grilles. I use something before the imput for overdriven sounds (lately a Zoom MS60B, before a Zoom 708II bass, with enough tweaking both can perfectly mimic my SansAmp RBI drive). LOVE Peavey.

EDIT: still vigilantly looking for a Databass combo, would be my do it all amp forever.

I got my start on a old TNT amp. My how technology has changed for the better if you ask me lol. That combo weighs as much as a 8x10 Ampeg stack does now lol.

'78 TNT-100, still have it.

Blew out a transistor and the speaker while playing with a synth (long story). I plan on removing the amp and using it as a cab someday.

I loved everything about my Classic 400 except for its weight of 93 lb. If I was 30 years younger, I'd still own it. Definitely my favourite Peavey amp.

I had a Peavey Mark IV head paired with a 115 Black Widow years ago, in the 1980s. That head had an amazing range of EQ and great solid tone. With that Mark IV, I could EQ for any problem, including many high school performances in loud gyms. I clocked many long hours on that amp.

I sold the rig eventually to afford something lighter, which turned out to be a disappointment. It was actually a small Peavey, but it lacked all the good features from the previous rig, and was a pain to lug around. I always regretted selling that Mark IV.

Mark IV, definitely. I ran that into an 18, an old Bassman into a 10, same cabinet, years ago for my favorite bass tone ever. Ungodly punchy and dirty at the same time.

WOW! I was about to restore my TNT150 to a clean finish. Now I'm definitely punkin' it up. Also will drop the front grille (replaced fabric with metal) and, as you, put on some circular grills, much lighter AND punker. LOVE the ghetto knobwork ;-)

I also have a soft spot for Peavey- my first bass was a Zodiac and I still play it and love it. I also realy love my tour 450 amp.
Been talking my guitar player into getting a 5150, its among my favourite high gain amps.

You know, we hear about people having problems with new Ampegs, while Peavey probably outsells them by multidigit multiples and there aren't really that many beefs, or beaves or whatever about Peavey reliability.

If I needed an amp tomorrow I'd head straight for the Peavey dealer. I'm not so enthusiastic about their speakers but I'm pretty sure that the amp won't let me and the audience down. I might not be giving myself a luxury concert of all my favorite tones but so what. I can do that at home.

Which came first? The T-Max or the Kilobass?

Both released at the same time. Kilobass was the "Arena Rock" head. T-Max was it's more manageable (still impressive) little brother. I'm actually selling my T-Max on consignment at my buddy/bandmate's music shop as I type.

I recently played a benefit where the house bass player had a Peavey Tour 700 with an Ampeg 410HLF. Sweet rig; the best sounding Peavey I've ever played.
