Why are there few 12" loaded bass cabs?

Marshall have the VBC 412 and MF280L (Lemmy sig cab).

I run an old JCM 800 Bass Series 1520 4x12 cab in my rig. Love 12s.

EDIT: Didn't notice the post I just replied to was from 2000!!! :eyebrow:

Thread gets made in 2000. Revived in 2007. Revived again in 2009. Gets posted in on and off for the next two years.

I prefer the Genz Benz UBER Bass 2x12 over the UBER Bass 4x10, which leads me to believe I like 12s better than 10s, but that may just be the case with those two cabs.

I got in to 12"'s about a year ago and I'm still in love with them.

Ampeg V4 4x12 cabs are great for bass, and there's a lot of threads here at TB about folks swapping out the speakers (often with some kind of Eminence Neos), and adding insulation / padding.

My favorite 12 cab is the Ampeg V2, an oversized ported 4x12. Mine sounded great with the original old square magnet spkrs, but I replaced them with two Eminence 2512 and two Basslites. It's my favorite cab now, and with two wheels added on the bottom side, it's easy to move & clocks in at just under 100 pounds.

I took a VOX 4x12 guitar cab, sealed up two holes w/ plywood, & made a 2x12 cab out of it with two Eminence Basslites, and padded it w/ mattress topping. A great portable cab at just under 70 pounds.

Not trying to be a jerk, but I think the Basslites use a stamped frame. Maybe those are Deltalites?

I have sold my Aguilar GS 212, and my Genz Benz NeoX 212T. I only use 2 1-12 cabs designed by Duke LeJeune and built by me. It would be impossible for anyone to sell me anything with 10's or 15's. Duke's design is small, light, and more powerful then anything I have used in 44 years of playing bass. End of story

So glad to find this thread! It will never die because of google search regarding 4x12 cabs for bass guitar. I used to play electric guitar, so had a couple 4x12 cabs. I also have a couple 4x10 cabs. Thanks to this thread, I run all 4 from a b2000 Carvin head, 8 ohms total (each cab is 8 ohm, run parallel/series) 700 watts, pretty good coverage with 16 speakers. A stack on each side of the stage to keep up with the two guitarists. Yes, I lined the 4x12's, just the backs. I like the sound better than 15's for metal. Plus, I just added a separate sub woofer for more low end if needed for the B string (mostly playing 4 string). Happy speaker size experimenting everyone! :)

Heheh... funny that this thread popped up again. I just picked up another 1980s Marshall 1520 (JCM 800 Bass Series) 4x12 cab, with it's original Celestion Sidewinders (which I dig) yesterday. :hyper:

I have two 2x10 cabs, one 18' cab, one 15' combo, and one 2x12 cab. and I'm LMAO at myself!!!!!because I want more, more, more.

Well I can only speak for myself.

I don't have a lot of experience with 12's I've only played two. I just don't like their sound , they don't have the depth of a 15 nor the punch and clarity of 10's. To me their like the unwanted hybrid. I don't like their sound.

But that's just me, I'm more of a 10' guy myself. You may like em. I don't prefer them. Whatever sound makes you happy...if it's a 12 go for it. For me it's 10's, and possibly a 15 on the bottom.
