No - I spent money there... so I feel "invested". Or felt invested - I liked them and their 2nd incarnation "LA Bass Exchange" (where I spent *a lot* of money); Not wild about "the amp shop" though - too small. I'll spend my funds at Bass San Diego, thank you.

That's what I thought, they seemed like a honest and likable bunch.

Yes, one was already done in the early 90's.
But c'mon, just like many "sig" basses it was just a bone stock Fender. Yes I do dislike sigs.

A stock AVRI P would be the same thing as a JJ sig bass.

I'm not a signature fan myself, but I do have two signature basses that are very, very different than stock. The Tony Franklin fretless and the Miller Jazz V. Both are exceptional.

What's there not to love about this bass? It's a sunburst/ rosewood/ tortguard P bass. That's the answer to so many of life's problems. Okay, so Jamerson's name isn't on it, that means they'll have to knock $1500. off the price. If that's the deal, you can call it the George Foreman bass and I'll still buy one.

I could not agree more. Almost all of the basses the original artists played weren't all that special.

As others have more or less said, the only way to make a Jamerson model faithful to his own would be to abuse it and make it largely unplayable for the average player.

Jamerson original Precision before the 'Funk Machine" was a 1957 that he called the "Black Beauty": black with a gold pickguard and a maple fingerboard. It was stolen. There are some interesting marketing possibilities there.

FWIW, all of Jamerson's Precisions eventually got stolen.

I wonder why there is no overabundance of "Hey bass players, if you know jamerson, that's one of his basses that he sold to me when he was really down, out and heartbroken in Los Angeles and he needed the cash to fly some authentic gumbo over..."-ads on Craigslist.

I still think Fender would have sold a bunch of JJ's sig basses if they made that model. It really is a bit redundant though.

I have a 2013 American Standard, sunburst,tort and rosewood. I put an old set of Sadowsky Black Label flats on it and I tell ya, it is the "Funk Machine" reincarnated..sort of. Yeah I'd rather have it have vintage size frets and 7.25 radius but hey, it works for me.

Knowing Fender, I would think they would have come back out with a JJ sig again.

The first signature bass would be Stu Hamm in the late 80s. I am pretty sure Eric Clapton was the first "signature" guitar but I am probably wrong. I think it would technically be Mary Kaye but I don't think that was marketed under her name, again, I am probably wrong.

A Jamerson signature is essential an AVRI 62. My L&M used to hang SitSoM with a 62 AVRI as though it was a signature.

UM Les Paul is a Signature guitar... I think that was before the Eric Clapton

Also, Fender is looking to sell to the younger audience. Us older farts who are going to buy a Fender are already buying their products.
