Something I've been thinking for a while is that it would really be great if there were more regional get-togethers for folks to see and hear a variety of gear first hand as well as get a chance to know other bassists etc. I know it takes a lot to get things like that coordinated, finding a place to get loud etc.

If I can, I usually stick around until the band's last set when I am out enjoying myself and I'll go up and share a complement or two and after introducing myself to the bass player we end up sharing thoughts about gear, GAS etc. Plus, it is just nice when someone goes up and talks to the bass player after the gig

EDIT: tangent explanation... the thought of shots and beers got me sidetracked.

I like all 3 of mine, Ampeg blue grill cloth. Two from the 1970's and one newer, I have never used more than one at a time. I would always prefer to use an 810, but appreciate my GB 212 neo too.

It did. My guitartist is a mooch...he will not buy a car big enough to fit his own gear, so he bums a ride. And the deal is he always helps load.

I'm preferring a cab on wheels that I just need to lean back a little to push vs. deadlifting a 4-10 cab or having to lean awkwardly low to push.

I played a show this weekend with Ampeg 8x10 and Orange Bass Terror backlined. Possibly the best sound I ever had at a live show. Not sure age of 8 x 10. There's a reason these are the industry standard for backlined bass cabs. Only hoping my Berg 6x10 comes close to that sound.

I have not liked the 8x10 cabs that I have played through, but that doesn't mean I never will. stuff changes, including what I think sounds good. Watch next year I will be rockin an8x10

+1.. Picking up a 100lb 410 is not bad, but loading something you can tilt and slide in is much easier...

The Ampeg 810 is without a doubt one of the most recognizable and accepted bass cabinets out there. I have one as well as a 410HLF that I played for years. As an authorized builder for the Greenboy designs I also have fEARful and FEARLESS cabinets. I encourage the curious to come make their own comparisons between those cabs as well as whatever they would like to bring.
Generally players seem to have a consistent choice as to which cabs they prefer, but it surprises me how many ask me which one sounds better.
My answer is always that it doesn't matter what I like, it's about them, and having the confidence to go with what they like. Without that confidence there seems to be a need to convince others that your choice is the only true solution. At the end of the day, they're the one that has to be pleased with the sound regardless of what others think.

I'm with you. Whoever is paying the bill needs to decide what sounds best to them. Never let somebody else tell you what you like....

My experience with cabs is pretty decent and they've all been for live band settings with versatility being my main goal. Early on, I played through an svt cab, then a 2-15, then both. Solid sound. I then played through a Swr 410/18 for awhile, from there to a badass JBL p.a. top, an Eden 4-10, then Bag End 15's and 18's, and then I did the "let me see what little I can getaway with" by checking out neo 12's , combos using P.A.support , then a Berg HS410 and I just got done with a Genz 610.

After playing a friends ampeg rig, there was something I heard (that I liked) that I hadn't heard in awhile. It's just such a solid sound. I decided to look for a used SVT cab. I was going to check out a near mint regular 810 for $600 but along the way was a used Heratige for $900 ( only two years old ). I bought the heratige based on it's rarity at first, one of two hundred and I figured a great selling point down the road since that's my m.o. It sounds flippin' great ! Had the guy not responded back that same day I would've ended up with the regular S.V.T. and that would've been o.k.

When a good sounding cab sits that high , it's awesome. I only used it for one show and a couple rehearsals but I'm liking it and so is everyone else.

The Heritage 810 slays.... I'm still kickin' myself for not buying one when I had the chance to steal one.....

Wish I'd have brought my 810 tonight. The load-in was a PITA, but this turned out to be one of the biggest private conventions I've played for this group of folks, close to 1000 people, and I so would have killed it if I'd have brought my Heritage rig instead of the BA110. OTOH, they loved it anyway and I was on the road in 15 minutes, so it's not like I don't appreciate small gear But I could have used a little extra juice. Had that BA110 going for the gusto. Hope I didn't fry the speaker.
