    TU-3 vs PolyTune 2 Mini

I love the Polytune mini for bass. I don't need the buffer and it leaves some pedalboard space. I like the way the display looks and I can read it in most daylight conditions.

Ernie Ball Music Man Cutlass Club

I was looking for a nice P bass for an Elvis Costello project I'm involved with. Was at GC yesterday and found some nice options ranging from $600 to $1200 then I saw one of these high on the wall. I started playing it and was blown away. put it on layaway. My wife is going to kill me!!!

I want to love flats, but can't commit

I've tried for years to warm up to flats. Tried them on every bass I have but they are just not the tone and feel that speaks to me regardless of the musical style. I recently put rounds back on my Hofner. At a recording session the producer was raving about my tone and how great a Hofner with...

New bass hunt: MTD or F bass?

I had an F bass at one time and now an MTD. They both do it all for sure. I loved the Fbass I had and regret selling it but I will say the MTD edges it out just a bit for various reasons. Tonally very similar with the wood combos I had and have, even the neck shapes feel similar. My MTD is...

If your doctor told you that you couldn't/shouldn't play anymore...

2nd and/or 3rd opinions. Chances are if my hands are that bad to receive that kind of ultimatum there is not much else I will be able to do with my hands work wise. I would take aggressive action to try and remedy the problem.

Used MTD 535 or New Sadowsky NYC Satin Series...?

I was recently in the same boat. Sold my fretless 5 and wanted to get a "signature" bass that I would use 90% of the time. I play in a wide variety of bands, Country, R&B, classic rock, Jam Bands etc. so it hat to be versatile and lightweight. My others are 11lbs and up. I was thinking Sadowsky...

Do you ever feel self-conscious about your gear?

I buy what I like and I play what I buy. I spend way more money than I should but hey life is short and awesome gear makes me and everyone I play with/for happy.

Do you expect a gig date to be checked with you before booking?

1000 times yes!!! I expect every bandleader I work with to check my availability before booking. I do give them all my updated blackouts as well. I have been fired by bands who don't work that often for playing and filling in with other bands. In the end i always find better gigs.

Fretless Players: How long before you switched to unlined?

Started with lined, switched to unlined. Looked cooler played more out of tune. I don't play fretless all the time and don't have time to work on it. Switched back to lined. I don't look as cool but I sound great. I guess I'd rather be happy than cool.

    Overrated Bass Players

I feel all named are great in their styles and essential to their respective bands. Would you want to hear Motorhead with Stanley Clarke? Not saying it wouldn't be interesting but don't you think Lemmy gets it done just fine for them? All named are way more successful as players than me so...

    Tips for Western swing?

Just hold that pocket, keep it pretty straight and simple. It can be cool to improv a little sometimes but keep it really melodic. Did I mention about holding the pocket?

How to win at jam nights?

Great advice as well as many of the other posts. Try to sit in on some tunes with the house drummer, Lock in with him/her, make friends, buy them a drink, come back next week and repeat. If the house drummer likes you they will most likely get you back up often.

How many TBers don't use straplocks?

I've been driving cars for 31 years. Never been thrown through the windshield. Maybe I'll stop bothering with seat belts :rollno: It only takes 1 mishap for someone to say "if only"

    Eden WT-550B arriving soon

I use my WT400 for larger and outdoor venues. Even when running 1 cab (8 ohms) it puts out enough volume for me but with 2 cabs running at 4 ohms that amp is really in the zone! It may be just a 3db increase but I feel that's not the point. The amp likes to run at 4 ohms. The tone opens up and...

What Bass Was The Biggest DISAPPOINTMENT?

The 1st of the Tobias killer B's!!! I always wanted a tobias but try as I might I could not make it sound good live, it also felt awkward (neck and overall balance). I thought it might be better as a fretless but not so good either. I was also very unhappy with a Matt Pulcinella level 5 that I...

    Colin Moulding anyone?

2 more thumbs up for Colin here!!!! His arrangements are always beautifully thought out and melodic and his actual playing as well as his singing and writing is amazing. DJ got his feelings hurt!

I don't have time to read all the posts here so forgive my If I repeat something already said. I believe the DJ's instrumentation while not being an instrument in the classic sense still is gear that he purchased, put together, learned to operate (play), loaded and schlepped to the gig...

Gig spam: New Jam in Portland Oregon!

I just wanted to put a notice out to fellow TBers in Portland. We (Sonic Jelly Band) are hosting a jam every Thursday night at KJ's (formerly Wynne's) located at SE Division & 21st across from New Seasons Market. The jam runs from 8-midnight or later if possible. The band consists of myself...

Apologies in advance for the long post. I would like to share my 1st impression of BC. I am in the market for a fretless 5 and am actively checking all the bass sites. I'm looking to drop about $2,000 to 2,500. While on vacation in Orlando last week I decided to take some time away from my...

Mike porcaro better than Gene Simons?

WOW! i made it through the whole thread. Is it wrong to like both Gene and Mike? And when did either simplicity or complexity decide whether a bass line was good or not? I always loved the fact that someone could play a nice bassline without even being a bassist. The one thing missing...

Does Dean Markley make a 6 string variety of Blue Steels?

I like the blue steels on my 6 as well. I usually use an ernie ball .032 or whatever is available. I don't really notice much of a sound difference with the lighter string.

Giving up "modern" rig for old fliptop.

It sounds like you have pretty much made up your mind but I feel you should think again before selling your (very nice and capable) rig. "Common Sense" Bass

At the reccomendation of a friend I went to the carvin website to check out the SB4000 and 5000. That is their new jazz bass inspired model designed with Sieku Bunch (don't know if that spelling is correct). He has some demo videos of the 4 stringers and they sound killer! I would guess the...

    One Twelve with Two Tens???

I was using a 112 with a 210 cab both the same brand. I did not like it at all. Each cab sounds incredible by itself. I can't put it to words but the tone just did not seem to "open up" for lack of a better description. I tried another 112 (of different brand) and it sounds so much better.

THE BEST BASS SOUND YOU HAVE EVER HEARD

Sorry to hear man. Our 13 yr old cranky black cat (she loved me though) had a stroke back in april. After 2 weeks of what looked like possible full recovery she took a turn for the worse and died quietly at home on the spare room bed. Broke my heart to see. we have a 19 year old that still...
