Double Bass Yamaha slb300: can you play it on a stand?

I agree with all of the comments above. I do wish there were a good tripod option for the SLB300. The endpin works, but I’ve found that the bass can rotate around it, which can be frustrating. I have played mine on a K&M stand in practice situations, but for me it isn’t really practical for...

    Double Bass Acoustic Array Pro

I think it sounds great for electric bass. Very easy to dial and both the reverb and chorus sound great. Depending on the setting it will work well.. but I wouldn’t try to use it in a loud setting. It also has two channels and for some gigs I have been able take only this amp my bass and...

    Double Bass Acoustic Array Pro

I recently purchased the Gollihur Genzler Bass Array I am finding it to be very suitable to my needs- I am using it playing in a guitar / bass duo It is replacing a couple of GK amps (MBE 150 (this is a great amp but it is 30 yrs old and may die at any time) and a Fusion 500 with A Neo 12)...

Hey everyone . Saw this one on my YouTube today… hadn’t seen it before but it’s pretty tasty. Always happy to see Duck Dunn, Steve Cropper and Booker T playing. I have to say Will Lee is phenomenal on the cowbell. Who said more cowbell?

    John Lodge

John was definitely a master. I was fortunate to see him several times at Red Rocks Amphitheater with th Moody’s and Colorado Symphony. He was a great player singer and writer. The last time I saw him was the Summer of 2023- he hadn’t lost anything still at the top of his game.

Double Bass NS Design NXT Megathread

Welcome Sunbeast, The NXT5 is definitely a fun instrument. I was drawn to it like you because of influences like E Weber… I really don’t use many effects like he did but I love his music. Like you I lean towards instruments with the high C more than the low B but mine is set up with the...

Double Bass Going to see Ron Carter and his Foresight Quartet on Saturday

I have been fortunate enough to see Mr. Carter the past two years… it was quite a treat. The 1st with Golden Striker 2023 the 2nd with Foursight 2024. I know Ron must have been impacted by the recent death of Russel Malone when I saw him in September.. I saw him in September, 2024. He had...

Double Bass NS Design WAV4 megathread part II

I agree it would be great to have a stand that functions as a tablet holder. I usually play seated with my iPad on a microphone stand with my microphone… it is a little tricky getting everything situated so can access it. I may go back to standing when I play to increase my mobility. But...

Double Bass To Dot or not to Dot? That is the question.

I would make any mods to the side of the fingerboard… it’s much more visible (when playing) to me than the front. I use a pencil from time to time… it rubs off over time and you re-do it when needed.

Nice Video on YouTube from IvanBassist. Great thoughts … music offers everyone an a lifetime of learning. I totally agree with what he’s saying but the bonus suggestion of learning to play by ear resonates the most for me.

I always try to keep an open mind about music. I have spent many years trying to take in all the music I can and learn as much as I can manage. I really love the older Blues and Jazz tunes but if music was a food I would say that the 60’s Rock, Pop, Soul and Blues is my comfort food. I have...

Double Bass Two Feel… please share your favorites

Hello everyone. I am trying to improve my musical senses and was hoping that other members might share their favorite Jazz tunes with strong Two feel. I find myself being drawn to play mostly walking swing in 4 most of the time. I am sure it is because I haven’t put enough attention to songs...

Double Bass NS Design WAV4 megathread part II

Hi Jim I don’t want to give you incorrect information… but my understanding is the pickup system is tied to the vibration from the string on bridge. Therefore the heights adjustment will not alter the string volume. If it’s only on the G string there probably isn’t an easy fix. If it’s...

Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

Glad you’re enjoying your new amp. I really prefer separates… Years ago, I got a GK 1001RB/210. It was a really great sounding amp but the speakers never last as long as power heads. I have had to replace the speakers twice in it. When I first bought it, I bought just the the separate power...

Double Bass Improving stamina (DB Forum thread)

I think the stamina issue is very relevant to all of us… there’s just not a magic solution. I think the suggestions everyone put forward are very well stated. Sometimes it helps to just listen to a great recording , bass solo ect.. to make us try to up our game (or maintain it)

Double Bass Do I really want an EUB? Convince me yes or no please

The EUBs can be fun and very portable… but they have their own feel and sound. If that’s what your after great. If you really want the DB sound and feel, you will probably be disappointed. My 2cents
