Hmmmm... Sam Zurick of Owls... he stands completely motionless for minutes on end... And then, when he does move, even the slightest, you are magnetized to it.

the file you attached, while rough around the edges, sounds like a finished song. If I were a guitar player i would assume you want me to play just the way you recorded. that can be a good or bad thing, it's up to you. either way, having this file to reference would be invaluable for...

    I made some music!

Well, It's been a month now and I just wanted to let everyone know that there are new, audible tracks up there now. I bought studio time, and spent 14 hours tracking the new songs. For 100 dollars, I think it turned out pretty well. :bassist: Link Removed thanks again for your time...

    Opinions on a band name...

don't worry too much about it! A band name is constantly changing, Almost as much as you're opinion of it will change. Until you play a show with the name, be careful not to judge too hard. At this early stage in a band's life, Every member should be open to suggestions. It's not like the...

    I made some music!

I'm so exited to share it with you! Link Removed tell me what you think, i tried pretty hard to diversify my music over the past three years, I hope it shows! p.s. all songs were recorded in my bedroom, they are still work-in-progresses!

Will the Studio Save my Band?

I am playing bass in a power trio of sorts, we are called "Prof. Oak." The drummer and I both played our respective "first show" roughly 2 years ago, and since then, have been developing a gnarly groove with a decidedly post rock kind of sound. I enjoy riffing off of the drummer, Wyatt, and...

    band drama

well, I hear you. I too play with a drummer who I totally lock with. however our guitarist has a MAJOR ego problem. He absolutely refuses to groove with the drummer and I. We'll lay down the funkiest groove and he will stare at the ceiling and maybe tug his tremolo.. The guitarist is...

How come scales sound so bland when you try to improvise in them?

Make Sure you know what key the song is in - Also, most modern music strays very far away for the "basic" scale. Playing in key like you are doing will sound the best only over music that is very rigidly "in key" I.E. tonal music. Another thing to listen to when improvising is the melody...

How does the tone differ on a fretless?

When you play fretted, every note you play lands on the same spot, so the pitch of the note is the same every time. This produces a very dialed in, clear sound. When you play frettless, even with lines on the fret board, it is very hard to play the EXACT same note every time. Also, the...

    Scoop the mids?

I've always read on this forum that scooping the mids from your signal will disappear you from the mix. ... I was hoping that someone here could point me to a recording in which the bass tone is scooped and sounds "just right." Help me talkbass, you're my only hope! -trent

5 string neck dive - how do you deal with it?

for reals though... get a cheapo Peavy leather strap, make sure it's at least 2.5 inches wide. I play a Spector legend 6 stringer and the neck dive was pain-inducing. Then I just bought an oversized strap, and now I can deal with it.

    Amp Newbie

Yeah, 400 watts is more than enough... Most established bars that host bands regularly will have some kind of house PA system to help you get more volume. If there is no house support, you will most likely have to turn up the amp past the halfway point, which is not a bad thing. I will say...

    Why bass cliff?

+1 to leaning piano, very very helpful. The Grand Staff was built of the piano - "middle C" is the center of the piano, and the center of the Staff... i think... It taught me the difference between minor and major type harmonies - knowledge that is invaluable when writing an interesting...

    Forums upset me!

Dear OP - Yeah, I think you are probably right. No one likes getting "fONged" or "pwn3d" or "FAIL" or "/thread." That being said, when one has "passion" for something, (music, movies, etc.) that passion consumes the person. We are all victims of some kind of passion, and we are...

Does anyone make an 8ohm, 6X6 style cab?

Naw, I've been reading the TE user guide. It says "Each of the two output stages can handle one four ohm cabinet or two 8 ohm cab. run in parallel." I'm looking into Phil Jones now, and it is quite expensive. Does anyone here have experience with these cabs not paired with the Phil Jones amp?

Does anyone make an 8ohm, 6X6 style cab?

No, no! Sorry, The Trace Elliot uses two 500 watt output stage, and is rated at four ohms. Therefor, I'll need two 8 ohm cabs to get the.. so, wait... Well, nevermind. Upon further reading it appears to me now that EACH of the 500w output stages can handle two separate four ohm loads...

Does anyone make an 8ohm, 6X6 style cab?

Currently I'm using my head to power a "Henry the 8X8" cab. I like the way so many tiny drivers can sound, but the cab is 4 ohms and is only rated at 500 watts. Since my head runs at 4 ohms, I'm only getting half the rated power of 1000 watts. So does anyone make an 8 ohm, very small...

    6 Strings? Peavey?

I Bought a grind six once, brought it home, and returned it. It is a very Very dark sounding bass. You could probably experiment with string type/pickups, but from my experience the bass sounded a lot like wood. It's not a bad thing, but it is a.. "thing" to think about. I went with the...

    Recording Is GRUELING!!!

For the past few months I've been putting together this ep/demo in my bedroom. I'll be the first to tell you that sitting in a chair for three hours trying to "nail" that perfect chord progression, then playing that "perfect" guitar solo over the "amazing" bass line is not too fun. However...

    Spector makes... guitars?

Wow! I'll check into Hiram Bullock Matt~ they sound similar to PRS or Spector bass guitars? I read that the Spectors have a hollow body, but no sound hole. I want to string one of those up with some nice flat wounds to match my bass.... I think that would be tone nirvana... the looping...

Sad day tomorrow. Time to say goodbye to a founding member =(

The very first time I plugged my bass into a full cab and played with another person (drummer friend) it was the most triumphant power rock-out experience I had even known. His fills were just so powerful, and to hear my bass all loud and vibrate-y was the biggest rush! I was young then, and...
